A beach with palm trees and a clear blue sea.
A tropical island with a central peak, surrounded by turquoise waters and a clear sky.
A beach with two people sitting on the sand, a boat anchored in the water, and distant hills.

A stunning backdrop to many TV and film productions, including the film “Castaway”, these islands are one of the shining stars among Fiji’s island getaways.

The Mamanucas are an impossibly beautiful group of islands that are the stuff of movie posters and holiday postcards. It’s no surprise then that is Fiji’s most popular cluster of islands. In spite of their popularity, their beauty remains unspoilt and there is plenty to do on the islands to ensure that there’s never a dull moment during your stay. If you’ve always had a romantic notion of being stranded on a desert island, then this is your chance. There are some uninhabited islands among the chain, yet they can still be accessed by boat for day trips. So grab a few essentials and head off to enjoy the tranquillity.

The Mamanucas are short journey away either by seaplane or by boat from Viti Levu, Fiji’s main island. Port Denarau is the closest drop-off point and is only a 15-minute drive from Nadi International Airport. All that’s left to do is decide which islands to visit.

This is a peaceful archipelago that clusters around the Malolo Barrier Reef. It’s the perfect place to enjoy snorkelling or scuba diving. Tuition in both is readily available, so even if you’ve never tried it before, now’s your chance. You’ll be blown away when you first see the majestic beauty that unfolds before your mask-clad eyes.

If you want to explore the Mamanucas’ colourful coral reefs, the perfect way on a charter cruise. You’ll float away to places that are only known to the locals. If you gather a group of friends or family together, you can hire a guide and a boat for a day. Your resort may well organise trips as well. Whatever you choose, you’ll find some of the best places to surf, fish and snorkel.

If you’re just looking for a day trip, there are plenty of options for getting around the Mamanucas by boat, and plenty of fun activities along the way.

The Mamanucas are perfect for families, groups or solo travellers and cater for all budgets and tastes. There are resorts that are suitable for families, honeymooners or young people out for a good time. Whichever island you choose and whatever your budget, one thing that’s guaranteed is a warm welcome and beautiful moonlit nights.
