The Old Forge is situated in The Great Wolds Valley alongside The Gypsy Race, a stream which runs through the village and is fed by a natural spring. Overlooking an ’Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the property has been imaginatively converted to an exceptionally high standard. Dating back to 1855 and once a busy working village forge, the property retains many original features, providing a truly delightful single-storey cottage. The cottage has natural stone floors, beamed ceilings and a cosy wood burning stove set in a stunning brick fireplace modelled on one of the three original curved chimneys. With underfloor heating throughout (thermostatic controls are in each room to allow individual room temperature control) and complemented with high quality furnishings, this is a character cottage with a modern and stylish interior. The Yorkshire Wolds is still one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets; the area is unspoilt and ideal for walking and cycling, a haven for wildlife and rich in history with numerous historic houses in the region.

Spent 2 weeks at The Old Forge with family.

Spent 2 weeks at The Old Forge with family. The property was well equipped and spotlessly clean. The welcome basket provided was a great touch, delicious homemade cake and local treats. The only, very minor, improvement would be a grab rail and non-slip mat in the shower for elderly visitors. There was ample parking for our two cars and the location was excellent for visiting the coast and towns such as Malton, Pickering and Beverley. We would definitely recommend the property to others wanting to visit the Yorkshire Wolds. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Excellent and immaculate accommodation that was spotlessly clean on arrival.

Excellent and immaculate accommodation that was spotlessly clean on arrival. Caroline the hostess left a complimentary hamper of local produce and added a home baked cake and bottle of wine as it was my wife's birthday whilst we stayed at The Old Forge. They say that little things mean a lot and these extra touches by Caroline certainly enhanced the enjoyment of our stay. It also boasts a well equipped kitchen, we were able to cater for 11 at Sunday lunch with no problems. Located ideally for Malton and Castle Howard but could also be a base for exploring The Wolds.
