Located in a very unassuming hole in the wall, it was easy to miss at first. But it was a great location for walking around and the owner was super friendly and helpful. If all you need is a bed and a place to keep your luggage while you explore than i highly recommend.

Close to Atocha, luggage storage
Easy to find, near the train station. I stayed one night to be close to Atocha for an early train. No lift, but they have luggage storage on the ground floor if you don't need suitcase overnight.

This is a really personable and easy-to-locate pensión that I personally much prefer to a hotel, because I like things affordable and atmospheric with spirit of place. The single bed was smallish (probably not suitable for anyone over six foot, so ask for another option if you are; there are double rooms and bigger beds which would cost marginally more than I paid). Aniceto the proprietor was helpful and efficient; the location is unbeatable, especially if you want to get to and from Barajas by the 3 euro airport train from Atocha. No problems with hot water; this place is perfect for independently-minded people who know what they're doing and can scale three or four staircases.

an economical stay for one night
The gentleman who owns the Pension was most kind and helpful as I needed an umbrella first & the next morning a cab at 6am ! He was also available to answer my questions regarding fares. The Pension was well situated and clean, though I would recommend the windows be opened to bring fresh air into the gallway and rooms.

Great location, great place.
Convenient location, near the bus and train station. Small supermarket and other shops across the road and spotlessly clean great value cafe for breakfast underneath. Also walkable distance from the Prado. Very friendly staff - family run, and felt very safe. No lift , accommodation on 3rd floor.

Excellent value option if you can handle stairs.
It is up a lot of stairs with no lift, and I shared a bathroom, but this was excellent value, in a great location. My room, which had a small balcony, faced onto calle de Atocha, but the soundproofing was excellent with the doors shut, and I really have no complaints.

great location near Renfe Atocha station and a nice walk from El Prado. On 4th floor with no elevator so not a good choice if you have heavy bags. Also kind of noisy. A good choice for younger people on a budget.

Central, affordable option
There aren't a lot of these old-style pensiones left in the middle of Madrid, so if you're looking for an authentic Madrid experience that is affordable and central, this is the place for you. A few caveats, beforehand: The building is historic, but it doesn't have a lift, so it does mean a walk up four (quite dark!) floors to the rooms. (Aniceto, the owner, does generously offer to help guests with their luggage, but if stairs are not your thing, it's worth knowing). There's a fair bit of noise on from the street (calle Atocha does have a lot of traffic). That said, the positive bits are very positive. Aniceto and Victoria are extremely helpful and very friendly. The decor is kind of dated, but the rooms are immaculate and the property is very well cared for. It's very close to Atocha Station, the Reina Sofia Museum, and the transit connections are exceptional. Overall, a positive experience - just watch those stairs!

The hotel owner was very helpful and professionel in running a hotel, Bravo! Since the hotel had no elevator, he even helped me with my luggage up the stairs. The hotel is very well situated and practical for travellers going through the Atocha station.

No toilet in the room
The owner is helpful even though he does not speak much English. Bad part is you need to walk up at least third level. Also there is no toilet in the room only shower. In order to save money, the light is almost always off in the corridor, so it is difficult when you come home or when you want to go to toilet in the middle of the light

Great Value, But NO Elevator
The room was small, but clean and fairly comfortable. The big negative was no elevator. had to haul my fairly heavy bag up 4 flights of stairs. But the price for the room was great considering it was a private room with shower and sink (toilet down the hall). About 2 blocks from Atocha station.

about hotel pension
There were only two power outlets in the room and they were on the top of the wall and that was very difficult to use it . we hung a bag on the wall and put phone in a bag to charge it !!! very strange . The water has been cold a few times and we said to staff to fix it . It was really hard to use cold water in the shower . I think the room which we got was good for just 1 person but we was 2 person and the room was so small for 2 person . There is no lift and room was i 4th floor . but location was close to city centre and bus station .

Due to the rescheduling and flight cancellation we had to change the reservation twice. I contacted owner. He is very nice to give the help. He is always available for opening the doors. It is very simple place but ok for the price.

Everywhere we wanted to be
We were only in Madrid for 24 hours. We were travelling light (just carry on luggage) and stayed in Madrid overnight before catching a train. The hotel doesn't look impressive, and it is located on the fourth floor (up a narrow staircase) with no elevator. It was very clean and quiet and the location is exactly what we were looking for. Great museums and parks all within easy walking distance and many great restaurants all around the area. The train station is only 3 block away and everything was very easy to get to. Our only problem was that the proprietor didn't have our reservation from expedia. We had a confirmation and a code but he had no record or knowledge of our booking. Luckily he had a room available (the same room we had reserved) and he gave it to us at the price that expedia had quoted us. It was a good thing we weren't staying more that 1 night however as he was completely booked up for the weekend (as were most hotels in the city) because of the football games that were being played in Madrid that weekend. He was very helpful and accommodating. Not a big name or 5 star hotel, but clean, quiet charming and in an ideal location. I would stay there again

Decent no frills accommodation. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Just be prepared for walks to communal toilet and main entrance access can take a bit of time since you buzz and are let in.

Einfaches, aber zweckmäßiges Zimmer mit einem persönlichen Gastgeber, der sich engagiert um alles gekümmert hat. Die Lage der Unterkunft ist für einen Madrid-Besuch einfach sensationell und der Preis hierfür unschlagbar. Dafür nehme ich auch gerne vier Stockwerke ohne Lift in Kauf.

La struttura in se va bene, doppi vetri che insonorizzano la camera alla perfezione. Pulizia buona. Il proprietario molto disponibile, parla e capisce l'italiano. Unica macchia è la poca attenzione a non disturbare chi è già in camera (o potrebbe esserlo) accogliendo clienti dopo le 23 o anche alle 24, parlando e sbattendo porte per spiegare a loro come funziona la struttura. Avevo spiegato a lui poche ore prima che dovevo svegliarmi presto e nonostante questo ha accolto due ragazze, che parlavano spagnolo, con il volume della voce alto e sbattendo porte. Non ha neppure avvisato le ragazze (che alloggiavano nella stanza a fianco a me) che ovviamente si sono fatte gli affari loro per un'ora prima di addormentarsi. (E qui mi chiedo se per caso alle due ragazze sia venuto in mente che non potevano essere sole...) Capisco che qui gli orari sono tutti spostati verso il tardi, ma hai una pensione, un alloggio, e credo che indipendentemente da tutto, bisogna rispettare orari di silenzio e comunque aver rispetto per il cliente. Senza che debbo stare io a dirtelo...

Grazie per la tua opinione, ma ti sbagli di grosso in quanto non ho nemmeno avvertito le ragazze, anzi, prima di entrare e alla reception che ho al 3° piano, ho detto loro di parlare per favore visto che c'è erano persone che dormivano, sono d'accordo con te che devi rispettare le ore di sonno dei clienti, ma è inevitabile che possa succedere, come questa occasione, nessun cliente ha ignorato le nostre richieste, da quanto ho letto nel tuo commento, è stata l'eccezione. La maggior parte dei clienti viene di notte e nelle prime ore del mattino a causa dell'orario dei voli, dell'aeroporto e del trasferimento alla pensione. Ma nessuno si è mai lamentato. Mi dispiace per l'incidente, avrebbe potuto chiamarci e avremmo parlato di nuovo con le ragazze. Molte grazie per la tua comprensione Aniceto y Victoria.

Good, close to Atocha train station
Close to Atocha train station - 5 minutes walk, metro - 3 minutes walk. My room was rather small but clean. It´s a good accomodation for 1 or 2 nights if you are traveling alone....
