Perfect stay in the Hollywood Hills
Our son is at Gnomon, a college specializing in animation and computer aided design in the heart of Hollywood. Our stay at this lovely one bedroom apartment high in the hills but only 10 minutes or less from our son was absolutely perfect. We love to hike and less than 200 yards from this place was a trail that led down to the Hollywood reservoir or up to Mulholland drive. The view was lovely, the night air cool and the surroundings tranquil. one couldn't ask for anything more.

Secluded location, lovely views
We loved our short stay at the Buddha Bungalow, a peaceful spot with fabulous views. The apartment is spacious and clean, with Chinese/Asian furnishings and decorations - and of course the giant Buddha on the patio. It has a full kitchen with everything you could need, and a large bathroom. Check-in was easy. The road to the property is steep, narrow and winding. You'll need to park right up to the edge of the street to let cars pass, and let passengers out first. (It's so tight that when a neighbor had a party one night we had to fold our cars' wing mirrors in to get past their visitors!) We enjoyed the local neighborhood, especially "Franklin Village" (at the bottom of Birchwood Canyon - a lively area with restaurants, markets and even a comedy club) and we found the location to be a good base for visiting LA area sights and museums. Guests should be aware that the property is not managed directly by the hosts (we did not meet them) but a third party management company ("iTrip") who have their own rules and procedures independent of vrbo, such as requiring copies of drivers licenses in order to book. We had an problem with iTrip's automated emails which was quickly resolved, but it was a reminder that we were working through another layer. No doubt iTrip provides a valuable service to hosts, but we missed the personal touch that we've experienced staying in other vrbo properties.

Dream Setting in the Beautiful Hollywood Hills
This is everything we wanted for our stay in the beautiful and secluded Hollywood Hills. The location was ideal - far up in the Hills, just a short walk to a clear view at the base of the Hollywood sign. It was quiet and peaceful, especially at night, with the sounds of nature the perfect backdrop for the spectacular view of the LA skyline right off the patio. Mornings included a scenic walk down the secret stairs to breakfast at the Beachwood Cafe. Afternoons included another walk, this time just up the hill to the never-ending hiking trails in the Hollywood Hills & Griffith Park. Honestly, between the well-appointed kitchen, the proximity to the Beachwood Cafe and Beachwood Market (where they have everything you'd need, including fresh cut steaks), and walkable access to the endless hiking trails, you would really not need a car while staying here. And with that view - why would you ever leave? The property was comfortable, more than enough space for the 2 of us. We never felt on top of each other, and the patio off the bedroom was VERY spacious. It wasn't just a token little patio - it was truly a living space. There's an enormous TV in the family room, with all the channels you'd expect to have at home. The wi-fi worked great, which came in handy while trying to get a little work done. I was anxious about parking high up in the windy narrow streets, but it was truly not an issue at all. This property is perfect for a couple's escape in the Hollywood Hills.

Definitely would stay here again!
My boyfriend and I stayed here and we absolutely loved the place! The view from the patio was incredible. Driving in the neighborhood you could see the Hollywood sign which it’s so cool to see.

Great Location
Very peaceful and enjoyable stay in a spacious one bedroom (apt 2) in a quiet neighborhood with lovely view and garden. Same as other comments of steps to cart luggage, narrow winding access road and could hear owners and dog above but intermittently and during the day or early evening hours. Owner's small dog came in the apt when I was leaving and barked startling me at first but quickly backed off or was called. Not a problem, just be aware dog may be around. Recommend Beachwood Cafe and next door market at the foot of the hill for supplies.

Beautiful Veiw
We had such a lovely time in your place. Thank you for sharing your beautiful landscape with us. Very comfortable stay. Close enough to all you want to do but also such a peaceful place to wind down after the many adventures to be had in the LA area. A couple of things to note if you are interested in this property; there are quite a few stairs, the road driving up is narrow, the kitchen is functional if you want to cook small meals or store snacks during your stay (somehow I missed the kitchen in the description:)). Wi-Fi is great and we got great phone reception I saw reviews otherwise but my husband and I both worked remote all week with no issues. There are animals on property but they didn’t bother us one bit. They are indoors and very friendly if you are lucky enough to meet them personally. It was a great place to stay and we hope to be back again next week.

Lovely home at the foot of the Hollywood sign in Beachwood Canyon. Walking access to the Hollywood sign, park, and reservoir. Great history in this neighborhood, which has been home to celebrities for 100 years. Property is perfect for two people, but I wouldn’t recommend more than that. Some electrical issues, but the property owner addressed them promptly. Small dog upstairs barks a lot. Nice kitchenette and bathroom. One small TV. Treacherous narrow road leading up and down the hill to the property. Easy access to Hollywood Freeway, Hollywood Bowl, and Sunset Strip. Would definitely stay here again.

A Weekend in LA for the Coldplay Concert
I love staying in the Hollywood Hills, and this was a lovely spot. Nice views, a quiet neighborhood, and one of LA’s many secret stairs walks right outside the door! We didn’t have power to a few outlets, and the owners fixed them right away. We would recommend this place for sure! It’s also a lot bigger than it looks in photos.

We fully enjoyed our time in the Hollywood hills. It was just the type of experience we were hoping for. We enjoyed being “temporary residents” in the iconic neighborhood and frequenting the local Beachwood Cafe. As long as you are aware you are staying underneath another residence and don’t mind that aspect, it’s totally fine. And even though you are right in the hills with everyone else, you still have your privacy and can stand outside your front door to view the gorgeous skyline. Lastly, it was the perfect location to enjoy places like the Hollywood Bowl, Griffith Park, and other well known attractions. If we are ever in the area as tourists in the future, we’d love to stay here again.

Perfect Piece of Hollywood
Very comfy space, supplied with everything you may need, with parking available right outside on the street. The views are beautiful as is the whole neighborhood. The hike up to the Hollywood sign was really fun and memorable. I would definitely recommend a rental car since it is pretty far up into the hills. Hot showers were not an issue. The only thing that was a bit bothersome were the blinds as they let in a lot of light every morning. Would definitely recommend this stay to others weighing their options!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay in this property that was close to many LA attractions but was also an attraction itself! We had fun exploring the secret stairs and viewing the awesome architecture of the dwellings in the Hollywood Hills. The property was clean, larger than we expected, and had such a nice atmosphere that sometimes it was hard to leave the premises to get our day started. The owner does have a little dog that barked at us every day whenever we were coming or going but we laughed about it. Actually, the dog became an extra attraction. One thing that could be improved upon is the mattress. It was not comfortable; too soft and dipped in the center. Not the best for those with back issues.

This property had stunning views and was right next to a set of the secret Hollywood stairs. It was very walkable and we took sone amazing and gorgeous walks through the Hollywood hills. East to walk down the hill and i to the city too!! The property was small but clean and had everything we needed. The only issue was the barking dogs. They were very cute! But started barking pretty early some days, barked whenever they saw us outside. And other times throughout the day. However, we loved the location. And would probably stay there again but would just bring earplugs!

The place is described accurately. There is a view of the city skyline on a clear day. The dog I stairs barked a lot but never late or too early, so it did not bother us. The place was walking distance via the very steep Hollywood stairs, to the Beachwood Cafe, which was a nice place to have breakfast. The streets are narrow and windy. Everyone drives slowly, which is nice. Parking on the street can be challenging. Other than that the place was good for our stay!

My third time in Los Angeles, and always wanted to see what it was like to stay in the hills. So glad we did. Check in process and communication was simple and easy. Walking around the neighborhood was beautiful. We had tremendous views of the Hollywood sign just steps from the house. We recommend nearby Beachwood Cafe. The view from the house downtown through Beachwood Canyon at night was stunning.

Good Overall But. . .
This was a cute place with a beautiful view and was centrally located to many great parts of L.A. There were a few things that were initially off-putting, but, overall, it was decent: 1. The owner has small dogs that bark every time you go in and out and, often, they were barking at night or in the morning and could be heard downstairs (where the VRBO rental is -- ie. the owner lives above). There was also dog poop outside our entrance door the day that we arrived. When we contacted the property manager, he admitted that he had not assessed the property before our arrival. 2. The temperature of the unit is controlled by the owner, upstairs. There were several times we would have liked it to be warmer. 3. The water in the shower never got hot. The instructions provided said to let it run a long time first (which we did). It became warm, but never hot. 4. A fuse was immediately blown when we used our hairdryer. 5. The property manager seemed initially contrite about all of the above, but then became obviously irritated and, when I mentioned that I would be honest in my review of the property, he challenged me by saying something-along-the-lines-of: we have plenty of good reviews so I am not worried about it.

We value all guests that stays with us and respond immediately with any maintenance issues. As this Guests stayed 4 nights during one of LA’s biggest atmospheric storms, our team was delayed w flooded roads and was unable to conduct an inspection prior to their check-in arrival. We are transparent about the dogs, how the heat is controlled and we're very responsive to adjust it accordingly for the Guests. We immediately addressed the fuse issue and fixed it. We strive to improve and learn to do better. This Guest immediately threatened to leave us a bad review if we didn’t refund her in full. This Guest said she will stay 1 night and will leave and check-out early the next day. Yet never did nor contacted us of any other issues. The Secret Stairs Studio is a unique “bucket-list” experience to stay up in the Hollywood Hills with epic skyline views and steps away from the iconic Secret Stairs and hikes to the Hollywood Sign surrounded by multimillion dollar homes in a celebrity filled neighborhood.

Great location, wonderful views. Rooms were fine, however the mattresses were pretty bad. We were aware of the dog upstairs, and occasionally it barked after 10pm. There was a rain storm related issue- water leaked through the roof- and the manager responded very quickly. The call was late in the evening, and they answered the phone immediately. It was nice to know that we could connect with them at any time. Overall, the unit felt very private and peaceful.

My boys and I were able to enjoy this beautiful studio! Arrived and was surprised to see a zen like backyard that I wish we could have enjoyed more! Unfortunately the weather was not on our side! It rained most of our trip. We will definitely need to come back and take advantage of the property and surrounding hikes and secret staircase.

Great place to stay with one important downfall...
This property was wonderful and as advertised. Beautiful views, amenities listed were included, lots of stairs and windy roads as anticipated. Property was quiet and relaxing. Parking was a little confusing as the no parking sign across the street is damaged and hidden in the brush. The location was great for sightseeing, tours, food, universal studios, and really anything we wanted to do! The only problem with the property is the mattresses. All three mattresses are extremely dated and very uncomfortable. As two young ish people in our 30s these mattresses were terrible on our backs and shoulders. The only reason I wouldn't book again is this. I hope the mattresses can be updated for future renters. Thank you for the stay!!!

Thank you for your review and feedback. We read them all and strive to improve and do better. When we launched this property 2 years ago we bought a brand NEW Queen memory foam bed. We found guests like memory foam beds vs standard mattresses. We will have our inspection team check the quality and see if it needs replaced.

Great studio in the Hollywood hills
This little studio setup is a great home base for exploring LA. Nice 15 minute walk right to the foot of the Hollywood sign. I had to work a couple of days (unfortunately) and this apartment Is not well set-up for that. Wi-Fi was spotty and there really wasn’t a decent table and chair to work from comfortably. Also be advised that the road to the apartment is very narrow and winding. Parking was easy, right in front of the building.

Great unit in a truly STUNNING location
For our first international trip since March of 2020 (we all know why!), we could not have asked for anything better. Heading to LA for a concert, we wanted to stay somewhere we hadn't been before, and the Hollywood Hills seemed like a magical locale...if only we could find a place. When we saw this listing on VRBO, it seemed "too good to be true", but in fact, it was exactly as advertised: a cozy, quiet, affordable oasis in the heart of the Hills, with majestic views of the city, and hiking distance to the Hollywood Reservoir, Hollywood sign, Griffith Park etc. With a nice-sized main sleeping room, large bathroom, and even a separate sitting/TV room, it was more than enough space for the 2 of us, especially since we were only there for 4 days. A patio or outdoor seating area to relax in at the end of the day would have been the only additional thing we could have wanted, but honestly, we spent so little time in the room, it didn't really matter. The hiking trails in the immediate vicinity are epic, and just down the hill onto Beachwood, you have the fantastic Beachwood Cafe, along with a couple of awesome little local bar/restaurants (ie Birds) a bit further down towards Franklin. As the unit is professionally managed, communication with the property management was prompt and very detailed, right from the time of booking. We've had self check-in nightmares in the past, particularly with door codes not working, etc, but we had absolutely zero issues, and we would love to stay here again in the future. If you're looking for a truly unique LA experience, you can't go wrong here!

This place had a sign with a small welcome basket when we came in- a nice touch. The kitchenette had the essentials. The space was small yet cozy. Our teen stayed in a separate small room. The views driving up the mountain were spectacular with a view of the Hollywood sign. Centrally located to sightseeing and the beach. There even were a few beach towels for us to use. The hidden staircase just outside the house was fun and there was a guidebook to find more if you had the time. Overall a unique place to stay with unforgettable views and drive up the mountain very close to the Hollywood sign. Highly recommend!

This property had a beautiful view of the city! Plus it was pretty centralized to all the cool spots in Hollywood. Try to pack light because the stairs are killer with heavy luggage and the hill is a windy drive. But all in all the stay was great! Will be back!

Amazing location
The house is located in Beachwood Canyon. The views are spectacular. You can see downtown LA from the property. The neighborhood is gorgeous and full of amazing homes with lush landscape…only a short 50 foot walk from the property provides an up close view of the Hollywood sign. The roads to get to the property are narrow and windy. We got used to the drive after a few days but it does take time and practice. The property is about 15 minutes from Hollywood…30 from the Sunset Strip…about 40 from Santa Monica and 45 minutes to Venice Beach. We drove up to Malibu and that was about 45 minutes as well. LAX is about an hour or so away. As for the property itself…it’s spacious inside. 2 rooms with a bathroom in between. The bed was comfortable. Lots of storage. The bathroom is a good size too. There is a coffee maker and a fridge. We kept breakfast items in the fridge so that was handy. The location was beautiful. I would stay again for the serenity and the view. I wish there was a seating area outside to enjoy the property though. We sat on a tiny garden bench that’s more decorative that functional and drank coffee every morning to listen to the birds and take in the view.

Such a Great Stay!
This is the place to see and be seen in Beachwood Canyon! Walk to Harry Styles’s favorite spot, the Beachwood Cafe (try the rose water latte!). Enjoy a great walk through the neighborhood via the secret stairs (so fun and unexpected!). So homey and chill.. Grandson is THE BEST and Grandma is THE BOMB. French bull dog takes it over the top! Come for the great rate. Stay for the unique and unrivaled experience. For you worry worts (like me), parking is a breeze.

A True Gem!
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. A very simple, modest place. It covered the basics. We had the door open most of the time, which opens up to the lovely garden! We smelled weed often from upstairs, but hey, we are from Colorado...we are used to it! :) The view is stunning, as everyone mentions in their review. The stairs from where you park to the unit itself are very well cared for, and very well-lit but they do take a little bit of agility. I would reccomend this place!

Cute and Unique Place in the Hollywood Hills
We enjoyed our stay very much! The drive up the hills was so fun, especially when coming from the flatlands of Texas! The balcony view was incredible both day and night. The little suite was pretty cute and just right for my husband and I and our adult daughter who joined us. It was also afforded a cool opportunity to hike up the road to get closer to the famous Hollywood sign and see even more beautiful views and cool homes! It’s a great location that isn’t far from many places of interest. We met the grandson and he was very pleasant. The sounds from upstairs where he stays with his grandmother we’re definitely noticeable. One night after midnight there was some loud noises and commotion that was a little disturbing. We had the air conditioner running which helped drown it out to some degree. The power went out a couple times in one area of the suite. That was quickly resolved after contacting the property manager. Overall we felt that it was a great value for all we experienced!

Spectacular, spacious location
Great location for access to Hollywood Hills and Secret Steps. Some interesting hairpins on the way up! Accommodation has lots of space and is very comfortable. Huge fridge & 2-ring hob, although limited cooking with microwave and small combi-oven/toaster. Uber Eats will deliver! Need to be reasonably able-bodied to access steps to entrance. I found it a little noisy overnight due to TV/music and (very endearing) dogs on hard floors in other parts of building. Overall a very good stay with helpful and informative residents in other parts of the house.

Good but not great
While our stay was comfortable and the place was very clean and well kept it was a little bit of a let down. I know that pics don't always do the real thing justice but this property looked light, bright and airy. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the scent - a little motel like, I would imagine. We did light a scented candle we found and it helped. The ceiling is also really low and being a bit claustrophobic, I did have to adjust mentally. The owner (whom we met upon arrival - very sweet woman) lives upstairs and from what I was told, has her grandson live with her intermittently. We would occasionally hear the pitter patter of her little dog - nothing overwhelming at all. However, the music, noise and conversations that were taking place late at night (her grandson I was told) started after10pm & kept us up until past 3am. So if you're a light sleeper, be mindful that you might hear some noise. We conveyed the noise situation to the rental agent and she responded first thing in the am and on our second night, it was very quiet and we were able to catch up on our sleep. The streets in the neighborhood are also great for power walks. They have an incline but nothing strenuous. Overall, it was a comfortable stay - good but not great.

Amazing!
My friend and I stayed here and it was more than we could have asked for! Truly perfect location!!! The skyline when we walked out the door and the drive up was perfect and exactly what we wanted. SO close to beachwood cafe, we walked! Amazing place. Highly recommend!
