Perched right on the harbour in the picturesque village of Polperro, Charlie Wilcox Cottage offers a quintessential Cornish escape. This historic village, once a smugglers’ haven, is rich with charm and history, vividly brought to life in the local Heritage Museum. Your stay begins with a delightful walk through Polperro’s narrow streets, lined with charming shops, galleries, and inviting pubs, leading you to the cottage.
The cottage itself, located beside the jetty, is a cosy retreat brimming with character. Inside, the living area features traditional wooden beams, a warm woodburning stove alongside comfortable seating, all complemented by stunning views of the harbour. Upstairs, two inviting bedrooms await, one a single room with beautiful sea and hillside views, the other a master bedroom with a kingsize bed, a feature fireplace, and more breathtaking harbour views. A functional bathroom with a bath and shower completes this floor.
The lower ground floor reveals a well-equipped kitchen, including an Everhot cooker, perfect for preparing meals with local ingredients from the village. This floor also features a second kingsize bedroom with a quirky ensuite shower, hidden behind cupboard-style doors, adding a unique touch to the room’s already abundant charm. Outside there is a patio style space, where morning coffee or a sundowner at the days end can be enjoyed, as the star-lit sky above reveals the spiralling Mily Way, planets and stars.
Polperro is an unspoiled gem, offering spectacular views along the nearby coastal path and a wealth of local attractions. The village is home to a variety of shops selling locally crafted goods, bakeries, and art galleries. Further exploration leads to the lively seaside town of Looe, where you can stop enroute at Talland Bay, with beach and cove to explore. Looe’s narrow streets and busy harbour create a buzzing atmosphere and from here take a scenic train ride on the Looe Valley Line to the ancient market town of Liskeard.

Fantastic cottage quality furnishings and everything you need. 12 steps from the pub. If the weather turns just light the fire and gaze out at the harbour. The cream tea and a pint of milk on arrival is a very nice touch. The owners have done an amazing job on this cottage. Can’t wait to revisit next year.
