Whether you are a morning person or a night person enjoy your coffee or wine while taking in the sunrise or sunset that is simply to die for. Bring your boat or jet skis or message me about rentals. There is amazing deep clear water for swimming and fishing. The fishing, wildlife and flora are contiguous. Stay in a place with some history. The cottage was originally the Canadian Customs house. The original name of the house was “Thelma". It was then owned by an author named Eleanor Austin and referred to as the Driftwood for 20 years. The Thelma is featured on TripAdviser. The new name is the Jemh en al Rio. We tried to keep the originality and charm of the cottage while adding some modernization. The Cottage boasts 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 kitchen areas, a feature coffee bar for all your coffee, tea and smoothie needs, a dining area for 10 or more, a large sitting area with astonishing views of the river and a large recreational room with pool table, foose ball, dart board, arcade and lots of games. There are 3 TVs, wifi, satellite and DVD players. Water is drinkable. The entire place offers AC. Parking for 2 cars. Overflow parking available and a public boat launch. The cottage is in the heart of the 1000 islands with access to all that the St. Lawrence offers. Access to the 1000 Island Parkway with 50kms of walking/ biking trail, a few minute drive to one of North America’s best golf courses Smugglers Glen. Take a Gananoque Boat Tour just down the road. Explore the 1000 Islands National Park. Take in a play at the Gananoque Playhouse or check out the Casino. The bridge to USA is just a drive away hop over to Alexandria Bay or Clayton. Their a variety of riverside restaurants and pubs nearby.

We had a wonderful time at the JEMH cottage. Sandi was very responsive and helpful with questions. The location is amazing, we swam, kayaked, and rented a Pontoon boat so we could explore the 1800+ islands! I would highly recommend for a family getaway.
Our group of 8 really enjoyed the property and this area of the 1000 Islands. Outdoor space around the fire pit was a highlight. Sandi was great and very easy to work with.
Our stay at the JEMH Cottage was everything we wanted it to be. Our one daughter and son-in-law were with us and their three daughters ages 17, 8, 6 and our younger daughter and son-in-law and their 1year old daughter. They all said they had the “the best time ever. Everyone had comfortable beds to sleep in, even the 1 year old had a pack-n-play available for her. The cottage was very clean inside. We enjoyed the boat and kayaks. The little girls enjoyed fishing right off the dock. The weather was perfect also.
The house and location were great. We had 12 people and the house was just the right size. We loved the history of the house. Lots of things to keep you busy inside on a rainy day. Be sure to ask about garbage disposal, water pressure, and water usage, these were not a major problem, and we had to adjust. Overall, a wonderful time in the house and on the river.
The location of this cottage, situated on the St Lawrence River, was fabulous. We had wonderful views, many sittings of waterfowl and birds, beavers and muskrats. The living room, balcony and various desks all afford stellar views and opportunities for relaxation. Our stay was in early April, so we did not avail ourselves of the enticing swimming and water sports available, but that would be a good reason to return. It’s worth noting that one of the several bedrooms doesn’t have direct access to a bathroom, as you must step outside to reenter the cottage. Sandi was very responsive, helpful and easy to deal with. The cottage was well-stocked and well laid out for our group. The central dining room, with large table, was perfect for our meals together and games. We enjoyed walks along the road and a hike up to a spectacular lookout at Landon's Road, just a few minutes drive west of the cottage.
Overall, this place suited our needs near perfectly for our family reunion of 13. Our favourites about the cottage included the dock, outdoor seating areas, and the lily pad for river swimming. The kitchen was well equipped with dishes and utensils enough for our entire bunch. Sandi, the host, was easy to reach and responded quickly. A note about the property, there isn't really a safe place for young kids to play outside. Be prepared to make trips to a local park (of which there were some great places in Gananoque and Brockville). Also be prepared to take your garbage with you. With a group of 13, we made a lot of trash within a week and had nowhere to take it. Wish we would have known this beforehand. Aside from that, the cottage was great for our needs. The views of the river, sounds of the loons, and boat watching were fantastic. Would recommend to a group of adults or a family with older kids who are all good swimmers.
This was a well maintained property with wonderful river views and boating dock. The neighborhood was lovely to walk in with easy access to the local bike trail. It was a fun place for our family to spend time together!
Beautiful waterfront home that was well equipped, spacious and comfortable. Kids enjoyed the lower level with the fuzzball table and games. Close to many hiking and walking trails. Host was excellent.
Great place to spend a weekend with friends and family. The water access and recreation room were the show stoppers.
Sandi was a responsive prior to checkin as well through our stay.
Our group was 6 friends on an annual fishing trip. The property was perfect for us. It is well equipped, has a great dock, and incredible views. We hope to go back next year
We had an amazing family gathering at Sandi’s cottage. The pictures do not do it justice. It is a massive space with all the amenities you will need. The kitchen books are a gift for a big group, as are the games room and the large kitchen table. The dock and the water were where the most fun was had. The water is clear and the view is spectacular. Sandi was incredibly responsive, helpful and kind. We would recommend this cottage without any hesitation!
Our host was excellent—very communicative and quick to respond, which made the stay easy and stress-free. The location itself is absolutely stunning, with incredible views of the water and the Thousand Islands area. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind setting. The property, however, could use some attention. The room I stayed in near the entrance of the main building felt dated and had a noticeable musty smell. Cleanliness could be improved, especially around the windows and patio doors. The kitchen was quite small and crowded, with older, stained pots that weren’t very inviting to use. A few of the mattresses were soft and uncomfortable, which made sleeping less restful. On the positive side, the dining and seating areas were excellent—great spaces for gathering and enjoying time together as a group.Overall, this is an incredible spot with a fantastic host and unbeatable views, but the property would benefit from some updates and a deeper clean to truly match its amazing location.
Fantastic stay at the JEMH cottage! We were a group of 13, we had plenty of room for everyone, host was extremely responsive and the cottage has everything you need and more!! We would return in a heart beat and highly recommend this cottage. The deck is narrow and has no railing, I would caution those with younger kids. Our boys are 4 & 5 and understood the risk and were only outside with adults (and with their vests when near the water), it worked out fine for us. Its not impossible with youngers kids but you need to be extremely vigilant.
Do not miss out on this unique, historical and gorgeous property!
We enjoyed this space while in town visiting with family in the area and appreciated many of the thoughtful details in this cottage to help it feel like home. The waterfront was beautiful and there are many great seating areas to enjoy it from. The water trampoline and the aqua pad were fantastic for all ages and made swimming in the clear water more accessible. My son also enjoyed fishing off the dock where you can see the fish swimming.
Working with Sandi was just a pleasure!
The house was great, the kids loved the water trampoline, lily pad and kayaks and swam everyday despite the rain. The Thousand Islands are just beautiful and we look will look forward to returning!!
