The Star Yard - Lake Tekapo

Wake up to snow-capped mountains and glimpses of Lake Tekapo from this sunny, modern three-bedroom home. A large open-plan kitchen, dining and living area opens onto a wraparound deck overlooking open paddocks – often with a friendly pony grazing – towards the lake and mountains. There`s a separate cosy lounge and TV for winter nights. It`s an easy base for stargazing, hot pools and Mackenzie adventures.

Living and dining
The heart of the home is a bright, open-plan living and dining area with big windows and sliding doors framing the mountain views. There`s a dining table that seats six, comfortable lounge seating and a heat pump to keep things warm in winter and cool in summer.

Kitchen
The kitchen is set up for proper cooking. It has a gas hob with a rangehood, a wall oven, a microwave, a dishwasher and a large side-by-side fridge-freezer with a water dispenser. A long island bench with bar stools is perfect for breakfast or a glass of wine while dinner`s on.

TV lounge
A separate lounge gives everyone their own space. A wall-mounted TV and comfy leather sofas is ideal for movie nights or a seperate space to keep the kids entertained.

Bedrooms
• Bedroom 1: Queen bed with lake and mountain views
• Bedroom 2: Queen bed with mountain views
• Bedroom 3: Two single beds – great for kids or friends
All bedrooms have bedside lamps, and fresh linen and towels are provided.

Bathroom
The bathroom has a bath, a separate shower, a vanity and a towel rail. Body wash, shampoo and conditioner are provided.

Laundry
There`s a separate laundry with a washing machine and tub.

Outdoors
The large timber deck wraps around the house and has a glass balustrade, so nothing gets in the way of the view. There`s outdoor seating for relaxing in the sun or watching the stars come out – you`re in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, so the night sky is spectacular.

Guests have the whole house, deck and garden to themselves. Please note the garage is not available for guest use. There`s off-street parking on the driveway.

Check-in is self-service, so you can arrive in your own time and settle straight in.

Lake Tekapo sits at around 700 m, so the weather can change quickly. Even summer nights can be cool, and winter brings frost, ice and the odd snowfall.

Take care on the driveway and roads on icy mornings, and carry chains if you`re driving in winter.

You`re in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. Please help protect the night sky by keeping outdoor lights off when you`re not using them.

The ponies in the neighbouring paddock aren`t ours, so please don`t feed them or enter the paddock.

This is a quiet residential street. Please be mindful of neighbours, especially in the evenings – no parties or events.

Tekapo has one supermarket (Four Square), which has the essentials but a smaller range. If you need specialty items, stock up in Queenstown or Christchurch on your way in.

Stargazing tours and Tekapo Springs book out in summer and school holidays, so reserve ahead.
