Traditional Gersoise Farmhouse With Private Pool

Aou Forgeron is a traditional Gersoise farmhouse situated on the edge of a hamlet set in spectacular countryside. The area is characterised with rolling countryside, large deciduous forests to walk or cycle in, and wonderful views of the Pyrenees which are within easy driving distance. A key feature of the property is the two wrap around terraces giving excellent opportunities to enjoy outdoor living and alfresco easting whether seeking sun or shade. There is a soft seating area from which you can enjoy an aperitif as you watch the sun go down, in addition there are ample loungers, reclining chairs, umbrella and a charcoal barbeque.Masseube is 10 minutes by car and has an excellent supermarket providing all your grocery, fuel and wine needs, Mirande, a typical bastide town is 15 minutes drive; both have weekly markets. The regional capital Auch is 20 minutes by car, with its impressive, recently renovated cathedral, maze of small streets with smart shops and cafes and regular brocante and weekly markets.

Wonderfully peaceful and relaxing
For those wanting to have a completely relaxing break this is a perfect location. So quiet and beautiful. Very well equipped kitchen & spacious living area, super terrace and a lovely garden to enjoy as well as the refreshing pool - much needed on a hot day! Plenty of super walks locally as well as very easy to walk straight from the house. Would recommend taking a torch as the bathroom and toilets are on the ground floor. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and love the area.

Very relaxing stay in a traditional French gite
We have just returned from a really lovely week here. The gite is very traditional and is located in an extremely quiet little hamlet - you barely see or hear anyone else (this is the case for pretty much everywhere in this whole area we found!) If you want peace and quiet this is the place for you. The house is well appointed and had pretty much everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. There were just 3 of us staying (myself, my husband and our 8 year old). The gite is a nice size but I do feel if there were 8 people (which I believe it can sleep) it would be a little on the small side inside - the outside area is very large though and private. Although the owners left some notes about places to visit it would be nice if the house had a "visitors book" so that people staying could write about their visits to local places of interest and places to eat. We struggled a little to find places to visit with children and it was only when Dennis the housekeeper visited that we learned of some nice places to go with kids. It would have been good to be able to pass this info on to future guests who would also find it helpful. A really lovely week though and would highly recommend.

Secluded, private, tranquil
Had a great 2 weeks. The property was everything we expected. My only slight criticism would be pack of fans. We was lucky enough to have unusually hot weather (100f) however it was just to hot at night which made for a poor nights sleep. Perhaps a fan for each room would be good

Escape from it all
A great space for a good family holiday, very clean and well laid out. The swimming pool was particularly good, and the grounds and the remote location added tremendously to our fantastic holiday. We would certainly consider going again.

Lovely property and fabulous garden and pool area
Great living space and enjoyed the large kitchen diner area especially the wood burner in the unexpected poor weather we had for a few days.

A beautiful country cottage.
The gite is a charming, rustic country cottage set in the rolling hills of southern France. There are plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling around the house, the Pyrenees are clearly visible in the distance and there are several pretty villages and towns nearby to visit. The house is well equipped with a great kitchen and comfortable lounge. The garden and patio are lovely places to chill out and have a barbecue, and the frog chorus in the evenings is a delight! Altogether a very pleasant stay.

Au Forgeron provided everything we needed in a beautiful setting
A beautiful house, spacious and very well equipped with a pretty garden, good swimming pool and lovely views. A great deal of thought has gone into it and we appreciated the extras especially the bikes and also the support of the local managers. We could have happily spent all our time there but it's in a very interesting region, too.

Perfect stay in the Gers countryside
We absolutely loved our stay, and found everything as described, and even better! We loved the traditional farmhouse itself, nicely decorated and very well equipped, especially the kitchen. However, as we were blessed with wonderful weather we actually spent most of our time on the wonderful terrace, where we ate all our meals (majority cooked on the great Weber barbeque) listening to birds and smelling the jasmine and lavender. The saltwater pool (apparently salt not chlorine to deter frogs) was lovely and we enjoyed several swims a day. Sadly, we only discovered the extensive network of tracks through the woodland behind the property towards the end of our stay and would have liked to do more bird watching and fossicking had we explored the woods earlier. We also enjoyed our game of petanque every evening at the front of the farmhouse with a glass (or three) of wine. The surrounding market towns are charming, although it did take us a day or two to realise that markets are generally all finished and packed up by midday! Merci beaucoup pour des vacances merveilleuses.

Some places advertise themselve as a 'home from home', Aou Forgeron actually is.
We have recently returned from a 2 week stay in this wonderfully relaxing property. It is a credit to both the owners and the property manager that it has such a calm and relaxing atmosphere. If you are looking for an action packed, 24/7 party venue this may not be for you, although there is plenty to be done with mountain biking, walking and kyaking being on the doorstep. If you want to get away from everything and have some quality down time this has to be top of the list. This is truly a home from home in that, although the house is very stylish and well funished, it doesn't feel that you are staying in a sterile show home. The owners have obviously put a lot of time and thought into the presentation. Being a bit of a foodie the kitchen was a highlight for me, being well equiped and open plan onto a lovely sitting room. The bedrooms were all very comfortable with plenty of storage so that unpacking didn't leave piles of clothes on chairs. A couple of evenings we made use of the lounge to watch a couple of films via Wi-Fi, which was generally good in the main part of the house. The local area is pretty rural but the small town of Maseube is only a 10 minute drive away where there is a good supermarket, chemist, bakers and bars/restaurants. The locals are very friendly and laid back and this is definitely a very traditional part of France. A little further afield is Auch which is well worth a visit. Great restaurants in the upper town and the cathederal is well worth a visit for the achitecture as much as any other reason. Even my YouTube and Pokemon Go obsessed son was impressed. As we travelled with our 2 teenagers we were a little worried about being out in the sticks but the kids loved the pool as well as the abundance of spaces in and around the house where they could chill out. The outside areas are brilliant, we ate all our meals on the covered verandah and the L shaped sofa is an ideal spot to enjoy a glass of wine and the amazing sun sets. The pool is perfect for cooling off as it can get pretty warm during the day, we saw over 30 degs most days, and you can even manage a proper swim. There really isn't anything we could wish for to make this property a better destination and even an issue with the fridge was quickly resolved. We have now been to France for the last 5 years and this is head and shoulders above the other properties we have stayed in. We will definitely be returning. Spencer & Amanda.
