Such a cozy place to stay on our trip to Kyoto, the beds were comfortable and the staff (Sonoe and Hiro) were so kind. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area.
A bit outside of Kyoto but very worth the slight extra work to get here. It is only a 20 minute train ride to Kyoto Station. We have relatives in Kyoto and have stayed here on three trips over the last 7 years. The rooms with multiple beds and futon are spacious and bright, with lots of storage, electrical/charging outlets, fun tatami sitting/work area, kitchenette, dual bathroom sinks, and roomy shower. Great for family groups staying together. The self-serve laundry is a bonus for light travelers. The Japanese style furo (bath) onsite is fun and relaxing (small extra charge). We have had the privilege of being hosted by the founders who are fluent in English and understand the finer points of the hospitality industry. Unparalleled attention to detail and service!
Nagaokakyo itself has some nice sites, activities and events. The inn is close to convenience stores and local restaurants, as well. We are a well traveled family all over the world---one of the best experiences by far for lodging!

It's beyond words for telling our satisfaction of the Kyoto Guest Inn Nagaokakyo. Perhaps this is the best Inn we ever visited during our numerous tours around the world. Hiro and Sonoe are such a pair of wonderful hosts who look after at every details of our visit, from picking us up at the train station and dropping us off every time we went out. The place is super clean and well organized. All the little decors are carefully chosen and give us a sense of refreshing. Sonde's direction for our day trips are so accurate and precise that we never get lost in such a big city. I have to emphasis that their breakfast are extraordinary, no matter if it's continental or Japanese. Everybody should try this when staying there. Although the house is over 100 years old, but it has been carefully redesigned and renovated to meet the highest quality as a 5 stars hotel. Hiro and Sonoe speak very good English, so there's no communication problem like other places in Japan. Our stay was just too short, so we already made plans to return to this gem in Nagaokokyo and stay longer this time to enjoy this quint little town.
The host couple can speak fluent English, and they are sincere and very caring to the guests to every details.
The guest inn is modern and in very good condition. A lift is even installed to be convenient for guests with heavy luggages.

Thank you for staying with us. Please come back again to Nagaokayo! Look forward to seeing you again!
I found a wonderful petit hotel, which has only 4 guest rooms and is hosted by Owner, his wife and son. Their hospitality is the best I has stayed in a while. You can have an experience with Japanese Tea Ceremony on request. When the ceremony room is not occupied, you can lie down on clean Tatami mats and read your favorite books or nap for a while.
Personally, the hotel location is very convenient for business. There are several manufacturing company HQs nearby. And you can access Suntory Beer Plant via walk and Yamazaki Wisky Distillery by taxi.
The hosts are so lovely and generous. They picked me up at the station and gave me a map and helped me plan my routes for the 2 days I was there. You can walk to the private rail station and it takes about half an hour into central kyoto then there are buses and trains to the shrines and temples. The guesthouse is very traditional and beautiful. There is a lovely japanese bath you can book for 45 mins in the evening. The Japanese breakfast is delicious and very inexpensive. I wish I could have stayed here longer. There is a convenience store and a restaurant near and you can book dinner at the guesthouse if you tell them a day in advance. I highly rrcommend this place and will stay here again if I return.
Amazing place to stay...very nice and helpful owner...giving us the guide of places to visit and how to get there. They offer us a lift to JR on our departure to Kyoto...very kind of him.
Lovely couple running the Guest Inn. Kind and friendly and they really make you feel like home. Everything was good. Location was in a quiet neighbourhood (which we like) but it's only a train ride away to the hustle and bustle.
Hotel owners did everything possible to help us. Lift from and to closest JR train station, plan trips within kyoto, prepare continental breakfast, etc. They speak english very well. Hotel looks brand new and is beautful.
The hotel location is its achille heel. The hotel is well deserved by train (5 minutes walk), but is 15-25 minutes from downtown. The location was not really a problem once our luggages were in the hotel.
