"For those who are looking to luxuriate in the onsens of the Kii península… This is a place not to be missed. The cave onsens, especially, were both gorgeous and healing… The other ones perhaps a bit rundown, but still quite a treat. The staff were great (and multi-lingual) and my room was squeaky clean. Highly recommend "

Yukai Resort Koshinoyu
3.5 star property
9.2 out of 10, Wonderful, (37)
"A truly fantastic place to stay. I ended up getting a reservation here last minute after the accommodations I had booked were a little questionable. This place was a great decision. The check-in was smooth, and they worked with me and my choppy Japanese. The room was fantastic, spacious and had a great view. The onsen was very clean and relaxing. The dinner buffet, added on for 990¥, was truly over the top, everything I could want including the local maguro in various forms. Rented a bike for...

"The front desk staff were so polite. Check in was very simple. We upgraded our room to get a view of the ocean/Hashiguiiwa rocks. I highly recommend this! The staff member who checked us in was using a pocket translator which was very easy to use and communicate. There were also staff who spoke excellent English. The room and shower were absolutely luxurious after the cramped room styles of Kyoto. This seems to be a very small town but there were a few dinner spots a few minutes away by...

"We had an amazing time at this hotel. We would return for sure. The outdoor onsen is beautiful and even thought there were other guests in the hotel, we were the only one using them, so it was quite relaxing. The staff members were so welcoming and friendly, the food was just impeccable. At breakfast time until we left, there was a pianist playing the piano. He was fabulous. We loved everything!! "

KAMENOI HOTEL NACHI KATSUURA
3.5 star property
7.4 out of 10, Good, (18)
"It is a hotel more traditional than I expected. No regular chairs in the room, we sat on cushions on the floor and this took some getting used to. The water view is pretty and the bento breakfast and dinner were novel and interesting. Also traditional clothing is provided to all guests to wear to meals and move about the hotel property. Shoes off to enter restaurants. Interesting experience. Good base to visit some of the Kumano Kodo Taishas in Hongu, Shingu and Naichi."

"Tried to check out and could not as they did not have staff to take payment. Had to leave to make it to bus in order to catch my train and flight. Has to go to extraordinary lengths to pay them after. Also extremely overpriced for this hotel, would never come back."

Kawayu Onsen Fujiya
4.0 star property
8.6 out of 10, Excellent, (105)
"The bathroom had a pretty funky smell that never went away, and it seemed that their answer was to put a tiny bag of potpourri next to the toilet, but it could have used a more thorough cleaning. Otherwise, a very nice and helpful staff, great free shuttle for local hikes, and decent breakfast and dinner. Quiet and lovely spot by the river where many people were enjoying the water."
