The best area to stay in Kottathara is generally along the main road that runs through the village, particularly near the central market and the Periyar River.

This area offers the most convenience for visitors. The main road is dotted with local shops, eateries, and provides easy access to the riverfront, which is a focal point for the community. You'll find a few guesthouses and homestays here, offering a comfortable base for exploring.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape will appreciate the guesthouses located slightly off the main road but still within walking distance of the river. These often provide more privacy and views of the surrounding natural landscape, superb for relaxing and enjoying the scenery.

For those interested in local culture and daily life, staying near the central market is ideal. It allows for easy interaction with residents and provides a genuine glimpse into the village's rhythm.

The best time to visit Kottathara is during the dry season, which runs from October to March, offering comfortable weather for exploring.

During these months, the humidity is lower, and the temperatures are pleasant, typically ranging from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. This makes it ideal for enjoying outdoor activities, such as boat trips on the backwaters or exploring the local spice plantations without the discomfort of heavy rains or intense heat.

For couples seeking a relaxing getaway, the cooler, drier months provide an excellent backdrop for romantic houseboat cruises or tranquil walks through the scenic landscapes. Many resorts also offer outdoor dining experiences that are particularly enjoyable in this weather.

Families will find this period superb for engaging in various activities, from exploring the local markets to visiting nearby attractions like the Kottathara River.
