Blackbeard's Treasure might not be here, but you will make treasured memories! The WIE Village is unique in many ways...made from mostly local OBX re-purposed materials, combined with charm, accommodate 1 to 3 people. Two pods & main house borders 1600 acres of nature preserve within 2 mi of the beach. To accommodate larger parties, reserve Pod Zeus &/or Main House in addition to Pod Messi. The space
This space adopted a Monarch Butterfly- Travel with Purpose when you stay with us and assist in global efforts to help save this beautiful endangered species!

The WIE House - Pod Messi is a 324 sq. ft. combination of mostly re-purposed wood from several houses, that have been torn down to make room for bigger beach houses has a fantastic beachy feel to it, and though it has a small foot print the space is anything but small, and a fireplace to take the chill off.
The WIE Village is SO very unique it made it into the 2016 OBX Parade of Homes...learn more about the amenities and layouts by Googling "Parade of Homes OBX 2016" and go to House #11 !

Guest access
You will have the whole Pod to yourself, and your guests! The Pod is outfitted with a retro fridge and freezer, a microwave and a pod style coffee maker. You will also have access to the sound (weather permitting) and a tandem kayak. (The kayak is available on a first-come first-serve basis as it can be used by any guests staying at the WIE Village.)

This is a beautiful waterfront location, and it may change your attitude for ever. Below is the story behind The WIE Village !
With green building in mind, we look to reuse and re-purpose materials that are left over from building large homes to create The WIE House. The first WIE House location is in an environmentally critical area, The Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina.
This concept is not unique to the OBX, as we would like to see it grow to any location where there are leftover materials on the job-site. Whether it be a remodel job or new construction, the benefits to this project are the use of leftover building materials, resulting in less forest destruction, filling of landfills, all while cutting expenses for all involved!
The WIE House is small in physical size, but big in quality of living. The WIE House is built to be as maintenance-free, and as energy-efficient as possible; including environmentally friendly items such as, metal roofs, rain water wine barrels to water landscaping, passive solar energy to maintain all exterior lighting, and all permeable walkways to prevent runoff to name a few!
A walkway will wind you up to the house that sits atop a hill and because lot clearing is kept to a minimum no driving of vehicles allowed on the lot.
Another goal of The WIE House concept is for local municipalities to get on board and see the value of higher density houses on property as opposed to the single Mega-Home!
The first WIE House was built on a lot owned by Jim Douglas on the Roanoke Sound, bordering the Kitty Hawk Maritime Forest and became available for rent Spring 2017!

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
Gather used towels: Leave in a pile in hamper or bathroom. Leave bed alone - do not strip!
Throw trash away: Remove all trash from house (kitchen, bathroom, etc) place in dumpster along gravel road. Make sure all dishes are clean, dry and put away. 
Turn things off: Turn all lights off. Set AC to 74 in summer and Heat to 68 in the winter at departure. Lock all doors & windows at your departure. If a key was used please put it back in lockbox.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

First impression

Great location and neighborhood. When we arrived and walked in to the house there was a strong odor of what smelt like mold, and it didn’t go away. And the water to the out side shower didn’t work. Not to give a bad review just something that could have been taken care of before hand. Enjoyed the stay and will give it a thumbs up.
