About this property
Kihei, Hale Hui Kai, Spacious 4 BR, Sleeps 12
Summary:
Bring the whole group to Hale Hui Kai, a small, low-rise beachfront condominium set directly on Keawakapu Beach at the southern end of Kihei, right where South Maui runs into Wailea. Your reservation includes two private 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condos: four bedrooms in all, two full kitchens, two living rooms and two private lanais, with the oceanfront pool, the covered poolside lounge and the sand only a few steps from the door.
What we guarantee: Both condos are always inside Hale Hui Kai. Unit A is a 2-bedroom condo and Unit B is a 2-bedroom condo, with exactly the beds listed under Bed types in every bedroom. Each home has the view shown for it in its photos. Both homes are kept to the same quality standard, with finishes similar to what you see in these photos. If we ever could not deliver that, you would approve the alternative first or receive a full refund.
Bed types: Unit A - Bedroom 1: 2 Twin / Singles; Bedroom 2: King. Living room sofa bed; Unit B - Master Bedroom: King; Bedroom 2: King. Living room sofa bed.
The 4 bedrooms sleep 8 guests at 2 per bedroom, and the sleeper sofa in each living room sleeps 2 more, adding 4 additional guests for a combined maximum of 12.
Unit A is built around an open living, dining and kitchen area with cool tile floors, a ceiling fan, a wall-mounted TV and comfortable island-style rattan seating. The kitchen has warm wood cabinets, a stainless refrigerator and an island with bar stools, so the cook stays part of the conversation. One bedroom has two twin beds and the other has a king, and the two bathrooms offer a shower and a shower-tub combo.
Unit B has a relaxed living room with a deep sofa, two armchairs and a ceiling fan, opening through a sliding door to its private lanai. Both of its bedrooms have king beds, which makes it a natural fit for two couples, and both of its bathrooms have showers.
Good to know before you book: each condo has its own front door and its own entry details, so the two halves of your group can keep their own schedules. Parking and Wi-Fi are free, and shared guest laundry rooms with washers and dryers are on every floor. Hale Hui Kai doesn't allow barbecues on the property, so plan on the restaurants and takeout counters close by for grilled dinners. There is a 4-night minimum, with check-in from 3 PM and check-out by 11 AM.
The Space:
Unit A (2BR): The living room, dining area and kitchen share one open, light-filled space. A sectional sofa and a pair of cushioned rattan chairs gather around a glass-topped rattan coffee table and a wall-mounted TV, and recessed lighting and a ceiling fan keep the room bright and breezy. The kitchen is finished with warm wood cabinetry a stainless refrigerator, a microwave, a range and a coffee maker, and the island seats several on bar stools for quick breakfasts. A dishwasher, cookware, dishes and glassware are all provided, so a full family dinner at home is easy. The first bedroom has two twin beds, a practical setup for kids or friends, and is served by a bathroom with a shower. The second bedroom has a king bed and uses the second bathroom with a shower-tub combo. The living room sofa opens into a bed for two more guests, bringing this home to 6.
Unit B (2BR): Unit B has a calm, homey feel, with a sofa, a matching ottoman, two armchairs and a ceiling fan in the living room, framed art on the walls and a sliding glass door that opens onto the lanai, the best seat in the house for an early coffee or a late-afternoon drink. A fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, oven, stove and coffee maker sits next to the living area. Both bedrooms are furnished with king beds, so nobody draws the short straw, and both bathrooms have showers. The living room sofa converts to a bed for two more guests, for a total of 6 in this home.
The community: Hale Hui Kai is an intimate complex of two-bedroom condos in a traditional three-story island-style building, with an easygoing, old-Hawaii beach feel. The small oceanfront pool sits beside a covered common lanai with lounge seating, the garden lawn looks straight out to the water, and the sunsets over the water are the evening's main event. In whale season, humpbacks are often visible from the pool and garden area. Both condos are inside Hale Hui Kai, so the whole group shares the same pool, the same lawn and the same stretch of beach.
Guest Access:
Your reservation includes the private interiors of both condos, each with its own front door and its own entry details, plus the shared Hale Hui Kai amenities: the oceanfront pool, the covered poolside lanai and lounge area, the garden lawn, the guest laundry rooms and free on-site parking.
The Neighborhood:
Keawakapu is one of South Maui's most loved beaches: a long, gently sloping crescent of soft golden sand on the Kihei-Wailea border, with calm water that is usually ideal for swimming, especially in summer. On calm mornings the lava rocks at the north end, toward the neighboring Mana Kai, and the south end, toward Mokapu, hold reef fish and regular green sea turtles, and the long shoreline makes a beautiful stand-up paddle before the wind picks up in the late morning. There are no lifeguards on this beach, so swim within your limits and keep children close. The beach faces west, so sunsets are spectacular.
Walk south along the sand and you cross into Wailea at Mokapu Beach, where the paved Wailea Beach Path begins its level, scenic route past Ulua and Wailea beaches and the resort hotels. The reef between Mokapu and Ulua is one of the area's best beginner snorkel spots, with depths of roughly 15 feet. The Shops at Wailea, with its restaurants and boutiques, is about a mile from Hale Hui Kai, roughly a 5-minute drive, and the Wailea and Makena golf courses are about 10 minutes away. Makena's beaches lie about 4 miles south of Wailea.
Heading north, central Kihei has the lifeguarded Kamaole beach parks, Kalama Park and the Kihei Town Center shops and restaurants, a little over 2 miles up South Kihei Road, along with plenty of poke counters and casual cafes. Boat trips to Molokini Crater leave from the boat ramp just up the coast, and the Mana Kai end of Keawakapu has a well-loved oceanfront restaurant for a post-swim lunch.
Getting Around:
Kahului Airport (OGG) is about 17 miles from the Wailea area, typically around a 30-minute drive in normal traffic. A rental car is the easiest way to explore the rest of Maui, from Upcountry and the Road to Hana to the West Maui beaches, and free parking is on site at Hale Hui Kai. Once you are here, much of the day can be spent on foot: the beach is a few steps from the building, the walk south along the sand leads straight onto the Wailea Beach Path, and the neighboring Mana Kai's restaurant is a short stroll down the beach. The public beach parking lots along Keawakapu fill early on busy mornings, but as a guest you won't need them.
