It is a symbol of identity in Kandyan Architecture. In the olden days, the king would stand there to address his citizens who were gathered in front of him. The golden roof behind stands over the Buddha tooth relic that this temple is famous for. Excellent location

The days we visited, the Mahaveli river was little bit dry. Overall, it's a beautiful location. The facility was more than reasonable.
