"Lovely staff. Stayed overnight before travelling to Perhentian island and was a great location."

Mimpi Perhentian

10/10 Excellent

"We are a family of 4 with 2 children aged 8 and 11, and stayed for 6 nights August 2026. We found this to be a very friendly, clean and comfortable place to stay, with an excellent location right on the beach, with all the long beach amenities easily accessible. The breakfast buffet is good. We did 3 snorkelling trips with Mimpi which were well organised and good. Our room had a lovely view across long beach. The private transfer from Kota Bharu airport to Mimpi and back again was well worth the money, well organised and we were grateful for them managing our luggage. Overall definitely recommend Mimpi as a place to stay."

The Barat Perhentian Beach Resort

10/10 Excellent

"We had a wonderful stay in a Family Seaside Room with our 2 teens. Spacious and comfortable, strong AC. Wifi worked, hot shower, comfortable beds, mini fridge. Basic amenities. They gave 4 water bottles and a new roll of toilet paper per day and beach towels were available at the front desk. We enjoyed the chairs on our porch and the amazing view of the other island. The way the island is set up, there are only beach paths which cut through all the hotels so you do get a lot of people walking in front of the room along the path - not the place for you if you want something more private (or pick a room farther in the back without a view). We loved people watching along the jetty and enjoyed the vibe. It was quiet for sleeping times. A quick and easy 5 minute walk to Coral View beach and another couple minutes to PIR beach. Just breathtaking beaches! Clear water, amazing snorkeling right off the beach. Restaurant on site had great food, took credit cards and we loved hanging out there for the evenings but the service was hit or miss. Get there early or wait for a table for a long time. They forgot part of our order on 3 occasions and we had to ask, after a 40 minute wait. Also more expensive than other places as they add 20% tax/gratuity. Overall, we kept our expectations low as the islands aren't very developed or luxurious but we were comfortable, felt safe and left feeling very happy. The Perhentians are incredible and this hotel made for a great home base during our stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Kampung Pulau Salim?

The best area to stay in Kampung Pulau Salim is directly on Pulau Salim itself, specifically within the vicinity of the main jetties and along the island's central spine.

Pulau Salim is a small, elongated island, and its main settlement is concentrated around the arrival points. This area offers convenient access to local eateries, small shops, and the island's primary walking paths. You'll find most of the guesthouses and homestays here, often situated close to the water's edge, providing easy access to boat trips and views of the surrounding lagoon.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find this central area ideal. It offers a relaxed pace, with opportunities for gentle strolls along the shore or through the village. The proximity to boat operators makes it simple to arrange excursions to nearby islands for snorkelling or exploring the marine park.

For travellers seeking a genuine local experience, staying within the village heart is perfect. You'll be close to the daily rhythm of island life, with opportunities to try local cuisine and observe traditional fishing activities.

When is the best time to go to Kampung Pulau Salim?

The best time to go to Kampung Pulau Salim is generally between March and October, outside of the monsoon season.

This period offers consistent sunshine and calm seas, which are ideal for enjoying the island's activities. The water is clearest and warmest, superb for snorkeling, diving, and swimming. You'll find that most local businesses, tour operators, and ferry services are fully operational during these months.

For those who prefer slightly cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, the shoulder months of March, April, September, and October are particularly appealing. You'll still get excellent weather but with a more relaxed atmosphere on the island. This can be superb for couples looking for a tranquil escape.

If you're planning a family holiday, the peak months of June, July, and August offer the most buzz and a wider range of organised activities, though you might encounter more visitors and slightly higher prices.
