The best area to stay in Jiquilisco is Puerto Barillas, known for its focus on eco-tourism and direct access to the Jiquilisco Bay.

This area is a private reserve offering a more secluded and curated experience. It's characterised by its natural beauty, with mangrove forests, estuaries, and a focus on wildlife conservation, particularly sea turtles. Accommodations here often include bungalows or lodges designed to blend with the natural surroundings.

Couples seeking a tranquil and romantic getaway will find Puerto Barillas ideal. The focus on nature provides opportunities for quiet boat tours through the mangroves, birdwatching, and enjoying the serene bay views. It's a superb spot for disconnecting and enjoying each other's company in a beautiful, natural setting.

For families, Puerto Barillas offers an engaging and educational experience. Children can learn about conservation efforts, observe local wildlife, and enjoy activities like kayaking or paddleboarding in the calm waters of the bay.

The best time to go to Jiquilisco is during the dry season, which runs from November to April.

During these months, you'll experience consistently sunny weather and pleasant temperatures, typically ranging from 25°C to 30°C. This makes it ideal for exploring the Jiquilisco Bay Biosphere Reserve, which is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including numerous bird species and sea turtles. It's also the superb time for enjoying boat tours through the mangroves or relaxing on the area's pristine beaches.

Couples often find this period particularly appealing for a romantic and undisturbed getaway. The calm, clear waters are superb for kayaking or paddleboarding together, and the lack of rain means you can enjoy uninterrupted evenings dining al fresco or watching the sunset over the bay. Many of the boutique accommodations in the area offer private terraces that are best enjoyed during these dry, starlit nights.

Families travelling with children will also appreciate the dry season. The stable weather ensures that outdoor activities, such as wildlife spotting or swimming, aren't disrupted by unexpected downpours.
