As the "hanare" part of "hanareya" suggests, this location is quite far from what you might consider urban Japan, and as such is a good place for some relaxing quiet time.
The ryokan room I had was very spacious despite being the smallest type, especially for one person. There was the genkan (entrance area), a big room for eating, a big room for sleeping, a corridor with chairs/tables and a safety deposit box, a closet with a yukata, a toilet, a separate bathroom sink area, one small indoor...

The owner is amazing, and we rented the nightwear which was very comfortable! The walls are thin, but we did not have any issues with noisy neighbours. Highly recommend!

Nothing short of an exceptional stay. From the staff, check in/out process, breakfast and dinner, hotel onsen - all of it was exceptional. There is a local train station within walking distance, and daily shuttle service into the quaint Ito town. Leaving Komeya rejuvenated and with a lot of gratitude to have experienced the Japanese culture.

Several restaurants on site, but booking required and we only ate there once. It’s an isolated small village with almost no other restaurants (one nice ramen place, but not open every day) close, but train to other places only takes a few minutes. This hotel had the most incredible view from our hotel room and the restaurant. I had the most restful sleep on the comfortable Japanese style futons and the staff were very attentive and kind, even giving the children gifts. We loved the onsen and massage services on site.
I only wished the indoor pool was open for the children. Maybe it is drained this time of year, but it was a shame not to be able to use it. The outdoor pools were drained too.
