Autumn Islay
The cottage was in a brilliant location for those of us who love peace and quiet: as we do! 15 mins up the lane from Port Charlotte. One reason we chose here was because the owner is totally local. David was a great host, knowledgeable, interesting and helpful. We were warm, cozy and comfortable after our trips out and about. Good beds too! The autumnal Islay weather was not a problem The house was equipped with everything you need. A big bonus was the great wi fi signal, so calls not a problem with wi fi enabled mobile.We enjoyed watching the farm cattle and sheep but mind you drive carefully up the road from Port Charlotte in case you might them sheltering on the road from the westerlies! Walks, distilleries, tea shops, to explore and to see Islay with Autumn colours was lovely. Think our favourite distillery was Kilchoman, field to bottle on Islay, passionate staff and just up the road. So glad we picked this house and the owner is such an asset too.

Nice location for quiet nights . Some good hikes can be taken from this location. Location is a little further than what google maps gives you but not a busy road so in and out of Port Charlotte is an easy drive. You can still cover the entire island within an hours drive. Plus close to Bruichladdich 😁

Found the 16 stairs a bit daunting....I'm 89 and walk with 2 sticks
Very clean, very well stocked, lovely location, but road from Port Charlotte probably a bit daunting for "Townies". Able to tie dog on long lead so that she could wander on the lawn. Unable to contact host as he was busy harvesting barley. Single beds a bit small for adults. Thoroughly enjoyed stay. Singe beds a bit small for adults. Can recommend it to anyone except those with limited mobility. Su.Wagner

Beautiful and relaxing stay
We were met by David at the cottage who went through all the necessaries. He then told us about walks and the beaches which was ideal as we had dogs. The cottage albeit in a rural location was clean with a welcome pack and beautifully presented. We will certainly come again. Thank you David

Off the beaten track.
The property is as described in the listing. Warm, well appointed. It is located a short drive from some very good places to eat in Port Charlotte. A slightly longer drive takes you to Bowmore where there is a large Co-op and more places to eat. Islay is teeming with birdlife and archaeology and just a short walk in the countryside around the property revealed choughs and hen harriers. Further afield we saw eagles. Highly recommended.

Disappointing
It was pretty dirty and pretty shabby. Examples: the hot plate of the iron was filthy as was the ironing board cover; the washing powder tray of the washing machine was full of slimy mould; the kettle scale encrusted. One of the controls of the oven hob could not be turned to off, so when switched on at the wall, came on and stayed on. It was dangerous; the sink and the washing up bowl were both dirty etc. We left early.

Just what we wanted!
We were met by David who made us feel very welcome and talked us through the facilities of the property. Let me just say that this cottage in its location was perfect for us. My partner and I are keen wildlife photographer’s, in particular birds and we never knew which window to look out of in case we missed something! I loved being next to the farm which for me added to the experience of our stay. Would I go again? absolutely. Thankyou David,

A lovely cottage on a beautiful island
Really homely and we’ll equipped cottage in a very quiet location. A great base for exploring the rest of Islay and Jura. Friendly host, very welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This property was excellent value. It is a very well equipped property. Nice touch from the owner, milk and biscuits on arrival. It is a great location for travelling around the island. Saw lots of wildlife, lovely scenery and lots to do. Distilleries a bonus.

Feis Ile 2022.
Excellent accommodation in a fantastic location. Unbelievable scenery and good local facilities. Ideal for getting around the island. Special mention to Ian in the seafood shack and the staff in the Port Mor campsite. Would definitely stay again in Port Charlotte.

Bathroom position awkward as it is downstairs which is more awkward for the older generation. We felt that the grass around the property could have been mowed. Unfortunately, due to some heavy rain, the path from the gate to the front door got extremely waterlogged.

They should have been aware from the website that the bathroom is downstairs I explained to the quests that the grass was not cut because of the ammount of rain the previous week and as for the comment about the mud on the track leading up to the cottage it belongs to the council. The area in front of the cottages is fully concreated and clean

Quiet, cosy cottage.
We had a great week exploring Isla. Our cottage was warm, comfortable and very well equipped. David was welcoming and very helpful. The cottage was in a great location for exploring the Rhinns. We loved our morning and evening walks down to the nearby bay. Hope to return.

Quiet Chillax
The cottage had everything we needed to be self sufficient for the week. I particularly loved the location as it was away from noise and distractions but only 10 minutes by car to Port Charlotte. Myself and my two dogs loved walking down to the beach to watch the wild ocean waves and walk over the hills. We didn't enjoy the best weather with lots of rain and high winds but we were cosy in the cottage. I do intend to return next year.

Comfotable and well equipped cottage in peaceful rural location
Cottage on a working farm with access to stunning walks. It may be the best equipped cottage we have stayed in with the bonus of wifi installed the day before we arrived which outweighed the lack of a phone signal. David was a welcoming host and he and his family were deliightful to talk to about the farm.

Lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful remote part of Islay
The cottage is well equipped, comfortable and cosy and located about 3 miles along a single track road from Port Charlotte. We loved its remote location and the easy walks to some beautiful beaches. David was a great host, communication was easy, we had everything we needed and wifi was installed while we were there. We'll definitely be back and meanwhile we'll recommend the place to our friends!

Lovely week stocked cottage on a working farm 10 minutes walk from a beach
Owner David greeted us at the cottage and was very helpful. Cottage well stocked with all the equipment I needed in the kitchen for cooking. Nice bathroom, bedrooms and seating area. 10 minute walk to beach which was safe for swimming provided did mot go too far out. 4 mile round walk to Machair beach- lovely walk - but beach not safe for swimming. 4 star rating as no WiFi- teenagers grumbled but knew about it as clear from cottage description and managed fine. Phone signal only in certain parts of the island and mot st the cottage- except if you went up the hill at the back of the cottage. Daughter took paddle board and David advised us about paddle boarding in Port Charlotte near the pier which worked very well. Relaxing holiday

Fantastic time.....
We had a wonderful week here. Great cottage, wonderful views, cows and sheep surrounding us, beach wonderful especially with our last swim... the farmer and his wife popped down too. David was really helpful...... Bought a couple of whiskeys at his favourite distillery. Need to come back for visits we didn't manage to take. It was wonderful. Thank you.

Peaceful coastal base for Islay exploration.
This remote, rural cottage situatued on a working farm very close to a sheltered bay was a perfect base for our family holiday exploring Islay. Everywhere we went was unspoilt, peaceful and beautiful - a week just wasn't long enough. There was always something of interest going on on the farm and the cottage had everything we needed for our stay.

The perfect holiday escape
We had an incredible time staying at Killkiaren cottage, Islay. The family-run farm within which the property lies in a haven for wildlife, and the family who own and run the farm make you feel like family too. They are so friendly, helpful and generous. They even allowed me and my son to help with some jobs with the sheep and lambs. Within a couple of miles radius of the farm we got to see Sea eagles, deer, choughs, seals and a host of other wildlife. Basically the cottage is the perfect place to stay to enjoy Islay and it's surroundings. Also a lovely beach is just a short walk away.

Excellent cottage stay
Very comfortable and cosy stay. The cottage is all one could wish for. Located on a farm, slightly out of the way, so blissful peace and quiet. Enjoyed walking down to the local beach and ruined 13th century chapel, all to ourselves. Recommended.

Fantastic get away
We absolutely loved our stay at the cottage. Whilst the break from the internet and mobile phones was an initial shock to the system to some members of the family, every single one of us fell in love with the island, and whilst the cottage is very remote, for us it was a perfect break from the hustle and bustle of life back home. The location was fantastic for the beautiful beach, perfect for rock climbing, sand for bathing, fishing and games. The cottage had everything we needed and David was very lovely and helpful. Would highly recommend and we hope to return next year!

Cottage on the countryside
Lovely house surrounded by farmland. If you are lucky there is sheep grazing in the field. The cottage has got a big kitchen with view over the fields. The sitting room is a wee bit dark, but enough light to compensate. Loved the bathroom which is very light. It is not far to walk to Machir bay. Just follow the path to the old radar station and turn to the left after the gate. Nice visit, thank you!

Fantastische cottage midden in de natuur
We hebben genoten van het fijne vakantiehuis. De inrichting was heel compleet, alles wat je maar nodig zou kunnen hebben was aanwezig. Fijne bedden met frisse lakens. Het ontvangst was heel prettig en we kregen ook informatie over de omgeving van David. Al met al echt een aanrader!!
