Mar y Sol has 12 air conditioned studio apartments with free wifi internet service located mid-island on Isla Mujeres on a private, white sand swimming beach with a spectacular view of Cancun across the bay. During the day boats travel back and forth and at night the lights of Cancun glitter like a diamond bracelet. The two upstairs studios have large balconies overlooking the sea and the downstairs apartments have a patio opening onto the white sand beach. Each apartment has one double and one twin bed, dining table and bench, refrigerator and hot plate, coffee pot, microwave and all utensils and serving pieces needed for light meal preparation. There are beach loungers and umbrellas for shade. Mar y Sol is located just a short walk from colonia LaGloria which has several restaurants and small grocery stores. From there it is a short, $1.70US taxi ride to the downtown area for shopping, restaurants and island night life. Lancheros Beach, with a great seafood restaurant, is a short five minute walk along the beach. This is a great place for the budget traveler who wants privacy on a beautiful beach.

Our secret paradise

We love this little hidden gem, rooms aren't fancy but they are clean and the AC is cold. Only suggestion would be please provide daily towels

Simple stay

We stayed at Mar y all for 10 days with our children. Great no frills accommodations on Isla. Hot water, bus stop, and cooking facilities. All we needed. Loud music for sure but wasn’t a bother. Bonus was amazing amount of birds, butterflies and geckos!

A south island hideaway

The folks were accommodating and cleaned the room and change sheets & towels when asked. It's not super fancy but has all the basics you need and was a very good deal. One cautionary note on a neighbor, Two doors up the beach is the Nomad Club Hostel and beginning later in the week they pump up the jam at night, and can be a bit loud.

Great quiet place.... sort of.

First of all we love this property. The location away from the busy north is amazing. Private beach... awesome. Room was cold and clean. Some things i think that others staying there that we talked to didn't seem to realize. These are apartments not necessarily a hotel. You need fresh towels you got to ask. Run out of toilet paper go down to chedrui and get some. Yes there is maid service IF YOU ASK..... otherwise they assume you're good. Think of this more as staying in your own place and not a hotel and you'll be fine. Next thing. The noise from neighboring bars can be heard in the rooms. This is not mar y sols fault nor can they do anything about it obviously. I feel like if you stayed in the north end anywhere it works be 10 times worse. I have ringing in my ears so always travel with a "noise machine". This took away a lot of the noise and our family was able to sleep just fine. Pool was a nice new touch since last time we were here too. All in all this is a great place and even more so for the price. We definitely will continue to stay here when we come to the island.

Beautiful Location, Better Instructions Needed

Overall we had a lovely stay. Gorgeous view of the ocean from the balcony, & pretty quiet (though you will hear music from the clubs next door). The strip of beach just outside the front door is a real treat, and the pool area is lovely. Host & maintenance were very responsive when we had trouble getting the air conditioning to work, & also when more bathroom supplies were needed.There are a few areas that could use improvement, like deferred repairs that are a little disconcerting (light fixtures dangling from the ceiling). And while cleanliness was not bad overall, there were crumbs on the toaster & shmutz in the kitchen drawers.The biggest issue, though, was communication around check-in. The confirmation email from Vrbo had an address that was completely incorrect, and sent us to an amusement park about a mile away from the actual property. I had messaged the host before leaving to inquire about the check-in process, as I had not received any instruction. His reply to me was to just show up, and that staff would be there. With no Wi-Fi service, I was unable to message the landlord to clarify location when we realized the address was wrong (he had not provided a direct phone number.) Eventually we showed some random people the listing photo & after a few tries, we were directed to the correct place. On arrival we found the property completely deserted. We wandered and called for help for about 20 minutes before staff showed up and we finally got checked in.

Great location for relaxing island life

We loved the apartment. Fabulous view from the balcony. The pool was gorgeous, clean and most of the time had it to ourselves. The southern westerly beach was quite and calm and I enjoyed snorkeling under the nearby piers. Definitely recommend for a relaxing getaway. Only drawback was low pressure in showers and taps but that didn’t bother us as every day was pool and beach.

Great Location

Everything about us day was wonderful. The property was very pretty with kitty cats and ducks everywhere. The only negative that I could say about it is that their private beach, you can only go out about 10 feet before you hit a very large kelp bed. If you plan on going out further to snorkel it’s OK but you can’t wade in the water without standing in the kelp. Next door is a hostel/hotel that is called nomad, we went there for drinks and snacks.

MarYsol Apartments - Isla Mujeres

Overall, our stay there was satisfactory. The onsite handyperson whom I'd call the 'key man' Roberto, was working steadily to try to keep up the property and cater to all the guests. He probably deserves more than what he is currently paid. As well, the housekeeper Sandy was on the job regularly and worked diligently to clean the units and keep the bedding and linens fresh - to the point where we asked her to only come in and do ours once a week! Once I told Roberto how the pool guy should be cleaning the pool and emptying the screening basket in the return, things improved there as well. The only real complaint we had was the loud "music' emanating from the Nomad Beach hotel and hostel next door. Sometimes the extremely loud bass drumming would go on 3 to 4 times a week till 2-2:30 am, and come through the thick apartment cement walls to keep us awake. Don't know what could be done about that, and there will soon be another outfit running on the south side of MarYsol. If anything, that would keep us from returning, especially for a long stay! The host was good at communication and even is trying to help get a bag of personal items returned to us, thank you Jose !!

A gem of a property on a beautiful sandy beach! The water was so pleasant, clear and warm. It really is it’s own little oasis with a wind slanted palm tree as well. The grounds are well maintained, clean and gorgeous. There is a lovely swimming pool with a pool house for showering, toileting and changing. Also outdoor grilling facilities in a cabana. We went swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking there every day. There was a kayak on the property that was available for use. Our apartment was very comfortable and really quite spacious. We prefer to do our own cooking while traveling and there was adequate cookware (although I would buy more and another burner if staying longer), a two burner cooktop, microwave and full-size refrigerator. There is a super large porch with outdoor furniture and a nice ceiling fan, however the mosquitoes in the morning in the evening are quite fierce. We met people at the property that rent for months at a time and come back year after year because they enjoy it so much. We found it very easy to walk around the island. The city bus stops up on the street just to the left. The downside that one must be aware of is that there is very loud music from the hotel next door to the right and some type of a party place to the left of the property. A couple of nights during our stay the music went on until about two in the morning and earplugs were modestly helpful at best. It is a shame that the apartment owners have no control over the neighbors noise.

Not a nice place

The apartment was quite good, but the surroundings weren’t. The beach wasn’t prepared for guests, a lot old seaweed and trash. In general around the house were a lot of trash laying around. It would be such a nice and quiet place, but we decided not to spent our days on a dirty place. Communication wasn’t so good either. We didn’t get the wifi password, so we couldn’t really explain it to the owner. After we left we contacted the owner, tried to explain the situation and hoped for some understanding, but there was none. We offered to pay for the cleaning service for the apartment, but it was a discussion and in the end we didn’t even get 1/3 of the money back. We paid 5 nights for nothing. It was just sad.

Wonderful stay

If you’re looking for luxury accommodations then keep looking. If you’re looking for tranquility and a the beauty of the sea right outside your door then this is it. The accommodations are quite rustic however clean and onsite manager is there anytime for whatever you need. Our room had an apartment sized fridge, microwave, hot plate and coffee maker. You are located a 10 minute and $3.50 to 5 cab ride to the populated northern end of the island. (Every cab driver was slightly different). Rental car not necessary, cabs are always going by. Besides, relaxing with morning coffee or evening cocktails with your view of Cancun skyline the absolute best. You may never want to leave!
