The Neighborhood:
Situated on the North Devon coastline, Ilfracombe is a traditional seaside town that's grown more and more popular over recent years. The Victorian fishing harbour is surrounded by rugged cliffs and provides beautiful coastal scenery for walkers and beach-goers. The apartment is centrally located, making it a convenient spot to walk around town. Wildersmouth Beach is less than a 10 minute walk from the apartment, while Capstone Hill (with its superb views) is a similar distance.
Ilfracombe is also renowned for artist Damien Hirst's famous 20m high sculpture, Verity, as well as its collection of local galleries which feature a mix of local and international artists. If you're visiting in May, you'll be able to take in the town's Art Trail - with its open studios, live music and locally produced food markets.
The unique Tunnels Beaches were hand-carved in the 1820s and have been rated the ‘3rd best beach for rock pooling in the UK’ by BBC Wildlife Magazine. Kids will love exploring the tidal pool whilst adults can sit back and relax in the sun. Lee Bay is a 10-minute drive away, whilst the famous Woolacombe and Puttsborough Beaches are 15 minutes away. This huge sprawl of beach is brilliant if you're after golden sands and great surf.
Devon is known for its Tarka Trail, a 180-mile cycling and walking route that traverses unspoiled countryside, dramatic sea cliffs and beautiful beaches. From Ilfracombe, you can pick up the route all the way down to Braunton and Saunton Sands, passing the beautiful Woolacombe and Georgeham village.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of North Devon, we would recommend bringing a car for your stay. There is private parking for one vehicle on a lane at the rear. The spaces are shared with other residents and are therefore subject to availability. We don't often struggle to get a spot, but there are other paid car parks very close by if needed.
That said, Ilfracombe is well-situated with numerous bus routes that link up to beaches and towns all along the North Devon coast. The National Express has direct coaches to the town from London Victoria. The apartment is only 100m away from the bus station. Or, you can catch a train to Exeter, and change to the scenic Tarka Line for onward travel to Barnstaple, with coach bus or taxi connections to Ilfracombe.
Plus the apartment is centrally located, so it is an area that can be enjoyed on foot!
Other Things to Note:
We welcome up to 2 dogs. It is on the condition they are not allowed on the sofa or beds and not left in the apartment unattended.
