The cutest little cottage
My family and I enjoyed a lovely weekend here. The kids loved playing outside, exploring and the water access was just across the street. Public beach within a short drive and about 30 minutes from Santa's Village. We loved it here and will definitely plan on coming back 😊

The area is beautiful & cottage as described. Could be cleaner - some hair, dusty bathroom counter, popcorn on floor. Biggest concern was the yellow water- like really yellow. Emailed homeowner to ask if it was safe to even cook with or bathe in, with no response . We had to go out and buy bottled water for cooking and drinking. Keurig didn’t work , which meant the coffee pot didn’t either. Also the baseboard heaters didn’t heat well- make sure you take wood for wood stove if it’s cold out. We enjoyed our time, but likely wouldn’t choose this one again unless water issue was fixed .

Perfect location
This quaint cottage was in a perfect location, close to everywhere you'd want to be in the Huntsville area. Beds were comfortable and bedrooms were spacious. The outdoor space was lovely and we enjoyed a lot of time out on the deck. The area was quiet and peaceful. Overall, enjoyed this location.

Lovely stay, minor hiccups
The property is very beautiful and well located. The amenities are good as advertised, except for the barbecue that was very dirty and its propane tank that was empty. The owner answered my questions about this and reimbursed us for refilling the tank. The shower and beds are very good. The access to the lake is steep, but manageable; you need to carry chairs and drinks, and the space is very limited (3 people max). We used one of the canoes multiple times. Carrying it up and down to the lake can be done by two fit people. We are very sensitive to smells, so we were happy that this place was clean and did not have any mold. Will definitely come back!

Not good for families - Beware!
Stayed here for one week with husband and 4 kids. Mouse droppings on the kitchen counters and in cupboards on arrival. Cleaner had to return for mess thru out the house. Pots and pans rusted and dented unusable. Bbq wouldn’t light. Stove smoked out the house when lit. Coffee maker full of mold. MICE ran thru the living room and kitchen all night. Host said he wasn’t aware of mouse problem but multiple traps under kitchen sink. We had to set them up and trapped multiple mice. Husband had to take our disabled son home early after multiple nights of him not sleeping due to the stress of the mice infestation. House smells of wet dog and urine. Water access was not suitable and pictures are not of what it looks like currently and had to drive to public beach daily as we didn’t want to be in the house with all the mice everyday. Would not rent again!!! Host was made aware of issue and resent the cleaner said he would check in with us at end of the week. No follow up after this terrible week. This was our one trip this summer and this house was not for families. This house has been partied out and not set up for families. Everything is dirty and We feel ripped off and disappointed. This rental cost us eating out more then we wanted too and lots of gas as we had to drive to an actual beach we could hang out at. We spent all our summer vacation budget on this house and we’re left with 4 disappointed kids.

Little red was absolutely amazing! Aside from the family of ants that were in the ensuite room and the misperception of the lake being right outside the cottage me and my friend highly enjoyed this destination! We would definitely come back!

Fall colour escape
The cabin was very clean and tidy. The kitchen very well stocked with everything you would need for cooking meals. Beds were very comfortable. However, lighting in the living, dining and kitchen was poor. I am an avid reader and enjoy a good book when away from home. Due to the lighting I could not read. A reading light and also a table lamp in the living room would be nice. Another area was the security cameras on the outside of the house. It was very intimidating to sit out on the deck knowing there was a camera on us. Therefore we did not wish to sit out there. We were only advised of the cameras after having booked the cabin. The listing should also make people aware to bring their own water.

Needs more updating!!!
Definitely not the owners fault for the weather. The place was small in the living area. Bedrooms a good size. Nice bathroom. There is still a lot of finishing work that needs to be done. Furniture could be updated. A gazebo over the picnic table. It’s nice and quiet. We had to bring our own bedding which was a hassle. Toilet was plugged but a plumber was called in quickly. Plumber said the toilet is not the proper toilet for the area. If the place was updated it would have been a live stay!!

Charming little cottage
This was exactly what we needed! We cozied up to a campfire, lounged in the living room, enjoyed an early morning coffee on the deck, and we utilized the kitchen space for several meals. The kitchen was fully equipped which was lovely and the bathroom was clean, providing a refreshing, hot shower every morning. Overall It was clean and inviting, quite charming really. I would stay there again. A few things to fix : I hope the hallway light gets fixed along with the fan in the secondary bedroom, (we were disappointed to be down a fan at night.) Also, a couple of the windows are broken, and that was a pain finding that out. Holly D

Loved the area! Very cute cabin. Only one bathroom and no air conditioning were the drawbacks for us. Also inside and outside seating areas not very comfortable; we are seniors who need some shade and a comfy chair if we sit outside. Beds were amazingly comfortable though!

This place was perfect for a summer getaway. Beautiful location, lake access across the street, well equipped kitchen, clean and well appointed. Need to be able bodied to access lake from steep hill.

Great Place to Stay
My friends and I (a group of 6) stayed at this location over the May 2-4 weekend and we had a great time. The property was clean and tidy and had a very welcoming atmosphere. The location was absolutely beautiful and calming. Communication with the owner was easy and stress-free. Overall great experience and would recommend it to friends and family. No disappointments within the group.

Great little cottage!
We stayed here for 2 nights, with 3 families (3 adults, 3 young children) and it was perfect for us. This cottage has a newly renovated, and fully stocked kitchen, new bathroom and floors, with all new appliances. The cottage is very comfortable and the back deck is a great place to hang out in the warm summer nights. The three rooms are spacious enough to add play pens in each if needed. The back bunkhouse is only connected to the main house (and bathroom) by an external deck, but that didn't present much issue except to run to the bathroom in the middle of the night. About a 10 minute drive to a perfect beach, with shallow water for kids and a big dock to jump off of in Port Sydney, and about 15 mins to Huntsville. The owner is super responsive and a pleasure to deal with. We will be back again next year!

Wouldnt rent cottage again
When we got to the cottage it was beautiful so excited for our stay. Once we entered the building it was a different story. It had a bad smell, the blinds were broken and it wasnt very clean inside. It looked clean from first glance but the floors werent very clean my niece who is 9 months old was on the floor and here knees were so dirty after. My sister want to the washroom and there were lady products in the garbage and not just one. Every cottage ive stayed at the owner has given me there number and touched base with me upon avail to see how everything is going.

We had a great stay at the little red cottage. My daughter's are 6 and 8. Everyone had a blast, we had another couple stay with us, the cottage had everything we needed and more than enough sleeping areas. Would definitely stay again.

The water at the property in the bathroom + kitchen didn’t appear clean, it was yellow in colour . The bedrooms have carpet and it is difficult to clean . There was a small heater to heat the living room + kitchen which wasn’t very helpful. There is a wood burning fireplace in the living room to heat which wasn’t very helpful to us since we didn’t wanted a wood burning fire place(we don’t find it safe ) The lake is across the property but the path to get there is very steep and not safe at all if you have small kids . The foliage around the property is good. Most of the house is surrounded by windows which is helpful and you can view the outdoors from inside. The kitchen is well equipped .

The cottage was not clean. I did clean it myself to feel comfortable but I refused to use the vacuum it was dated. The carpets have to go, stained with dog pee and other smelly spots. I dont think the bedprotectors have been laundered. All in all it was not up to par and I paid $800 of extra fees that that was not outlined on the bill. Great area to be in. Oh and the canoes worked but were heavy and old and a bit broken with NO safety bag anywhere insight, thank goodness we did get a ticket from the boat authorities. Also the the lawn boy decided to mow on Saturday afternoon which was annoying considering he could have done it Friday before checkin.

We have stayed here twice now and it is such a wonderful cottage. The owner is really easy to get a hold of and is very nice. The cottage did have pet smell issues, due to the last rental before us I believe as it didn’t smell like wet dog the last time. It is a wonderful cottage though comfortable beds.

Our group of friends had a great vacation at this cottage. We found that the cleanliness of the cottage was lacking. The dishes, pots and pans were put away without being thoroughly cleaned and we had to rewash everything prior to using as there was dog hair and rotten food stuck on numerous items Access to the water was across the street and very convenient for swimming and cooling off in the summer heat.

Anticipating a 3 bedroom cottage, one bedroom was completely seperate with no access to the main cottage/bathroom. They need a new cleaning service as the cottage was fine on the surface but using the dishes, they were not very clean and the oven needed a good clean. Otherwise, a delightful location and we enjoyed the wood stove.. Blinds need to be replaced as some are broken.

The property was easy to get to. The owner had given very specific instructions. The house itself was clean and tidy, and as listed with 3 bedrooms. Our only surprises were that one of the bedrooms can only be reached from outside and has no inside access to the house. For our purposes this was fine. The other thing to note is that the taps in the bathroom are backwards. Cold on the left, hot on the right, but not marked that way. Overall we had a great stay and would seriously consider renting this property again and would definitely recommend it.

Not as advertised.
The pictures make this place look bigger than it is. It was dirty upon arrival. The place smelled bad, there were dirty sheets and pillow cases stuffed in the closets. The owner was responsive but unhelpful. Supposedly the surfaces were wiped but I find it extremely hard to believe. I wiped down stuff and the paper towels were very dirty after I did a basic Lysol/wipe. I wouldn’t classify this place as rustic. It’s basically broken down. The price is absolutely not worth it in any sense. If this cottage had been on the cheaper end perhaps the state would have been less shocking. We cottage every year a few times. This is by far, the worst experience I have had.

Great location cottage not so great.
Ok we found the place check in no problem ..but dirty lots of dog hair everywhere, coffee pot has a crack and leaks out side bedroom only locks from inside so careful with valuables t.v. and internet hit and miss so if your planning on doing some work online forget it oh and bring lots of water cause I don't think the water is safe to drink its a rusty yellow color knowing some of this in advance might've made a difference come booking time. But the location is great and people are very friendly.

The owner was very friendly and knowledgable. The place had a barbeque, bonfire, a deck, and a lot of room for cars to park. The place was clean and very well organized. The only reason I'm giving a 4 star is because the water filter was recently replaced and the water was discolored, so majority of the time we didnt have clean water until the filter cleared itself. Otherwise this cottage is highly recommended.

Amazing Cottage Get Away!
Was the best week I had in a LONG time. The owner and brother(or co-owner) are so amazingly great. Will make your stay the best they can with helpful maps, amazing response, and flat out classiness!! I salute both of them. I will be returning to this cottage yearly! Great waterfront, dock, community, neighbours. Cottage was clean, fully supplied with dishes, cookware, all amenities listed, and more. Was blown away buy the hospitality of the 2 brothers. Can see this being a yearly go to spot for summer. Also knowing it's open yr. round may try a winter escape too. For anyone wanting serenity, I highly stand behind this cottage as Perfect! To the brothers....... See you soon guys! Thanks Again!!

Lovely little cottage
Although the cottage living space is fairly small, if you have great weather, it won't matter as you will be outside! The layout of bedrooms is perfect with the king and 2 single beds in the main cottage and then the queen and bunk beds out in the bunky. Main concern was the storage of food in the kitchen. With a family of 5 (which includes my 3 sons who are 23, 20 and 14) the fridge is way too small so pack extra coolers to hold food. The size of the fridge is apartment - extremely small. There are no cupboards to put your food away so we ended up having to leave the dry food in bags on the kitchen floor. Only other downside is there is absolutely no view of the water. But I had ready that in previous posts. But truly...NO VIEW. The shared dock is for all the cottage that don't have water access. We totally lucked out as the week we went, the other cottages were not using it. Can't be guaranteed that though. The water is amazing and having access to the canoe was terrific! Bring life jackets as there aren't any at the cottage, or at least not in any of the closets that I looked in! Overall, we enjoyed our last minute rental of the property and thankfully the weather was perfect. Oh and beware, VRBO sets the rates in USD - so that was a bit misleading as well. One more thing, bring an umbrella for the table as it gets afternoon sun....for hours! Don't forget to pack ALL linens including hand towels, bathmat, dish cloths, etc....you need to bring EVERYTHING!!

Thank you for your response. We are aware of the fridge size, and had it addressed this past week. We were able to remove a cabinet and install a full size fridge. Amazing Stay!
Despite looking small on the outside, the cottage is very spacious, with enough room to hold my party of 7 without us feeling like we were constantly on top of each other. The detached queen/ bunk bed room really helped add to the privacy we each had. The house was very clean when we arrived, and check-in was effortless and self-mediated. The canoe was definitely an added bonus as Mary Lake is quite gorgeous and secluded, so it's perfect for exploring without being interrupted by other boaters. The owner Craig ensured that there were more than enough paddles, as well as life-jackets. The area is very quiet, and we felt very safe during our stay. The house itself is a bit out in the open, but this wasn't too bothersome as the area containing the fire pit was partially shielded by the cottage, so we didn't feel too exposed when we chose to relax outside. The dock is beautiful, and very accessible with a staircase leading down the hill to the water. We did share it with another family who was renting, but there was enough space for both of us to dock our canoes during the day, as well as relax and enjoy the scenery. Craig was very thorough in the information he gave us about the cottage, and even included helpful tidbits like detailed directions to the cottage off of highway 11, and local amenities and places of interest with their addresses. He was always very prompt in answering any questions we had, and I definitely appreciated his transparency in informing me about precautions he had taken after recent high water levels in the area, such as changing the water filters. Overall the cottage and renter provided us with an amazing experience! Being first time cottagers we didn't really know what to expect, but I can soundly say that this experience definitely gave us a great standard to hold any future experiences to. Thanks Craig!
