About this property
Lake Life Love: Cute 2BR Hideaway on Tranquil Mirror Lake!"
Welcome to Your Lakefront Retreat in Highlands! Tucked away in the peaceful woods just 2 miles from downtown Highlands, our cozy lakefront bungalow offers the perfect balance of seclusion and convenience. Whether you're here for a relaxing escape or to explore the charm of the town, you’ll have the best of both worlds.
This space is built from our exposed basement and has been thoughtfully designed with comfort and style in mind. You’ll a welcoming atmosphere with windows in every room and all-new furnishings throughout. The bungalow features two queen bedrooms—one with a Sleep Number bed—a full kitchen, and a spacious full bathroom with a shower-tub combo deep enough for a relaxing soak. Step outside to enjoy the lake-view deck, or dine al fresco on the separate side deck with an outdoor table. Flat-screen TVs are available in both bedrooms and the living room, and there’s a stacked washer and dryer for your convenience.
The Space: We transformed an unfinished basement into a warm and inviting bungalow filled with wood and stone accents that bring in a rustic cabin feel. While the main home dates back to the 1960s, we've embraced its charm—so don’t be surprised if you spot some original iron piping or other vintage touches throughout the space.
Guest Access: Your private pull-off parking spot fits one car and leads to a set of gently sloped stairs to a landing, followed by a standard stairway down to your private entrance. (See pictures)
The Neighborhood: Mirror Lake is a peaceful, no-gas-motor lake just a couple miles from downtown Highlands. It’s a quiet, friendly community where the only sounds you’ll likely hear are birdsong and the gentle waterfall over the nearby dam. It’s the ideal spot to slow down and reconnect with nature.
Getting Around: A vehicle is recommended for getting around Highlands, as rideshare services are limited.
What We Provide: We start your stay with hospitality-sized soaps and essentials, not full-size bottles, to give you a fresh welcome while keeping things eco-friendly. If you need more during your stay, downtown Highlands has several charming shops and stores to explore.
Dog-Friendly Policy: We love dogs and welcome up to two well-behaved dogs under 60 lbs. A pet fee applies to help us maintain a fresh and clean space for all guests. For the comfort and safety of everyone, we ask that your furry friends be house-trained, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and ticks. Dogs are not permitted on beds or furniture and must be kept out of the lake. Please pick up after them and ensure they aren’t disruptive while you're home or away. We also ask that you do not throw your dog waste bags in the bottom of the outdoor trash bin. The town trash service only picks up closed trash bags in the trash bin. Please start a separate trash bag for this purpose and put it in after you have deposited your stay trash. Otherwise, it all gets stuck on the bottom and creates a mess. Have questions? Just ask!
Important Notes:
Trash must be bagged and placed in the street-side bin. Trash pickup is Tuesday and Friday mornings. Please help ensure the bin faces the street—Highlands’ trash service collects bags manually. So if it is not bagged, it sits in the bin, making a mess. PLEASE PUT ALL TRASH IN A TRASH BAG.
Only provided toilet paper (Charmin) may be flushed. Absolutely no wipes, hair, food grease, or… G.I. Joe figurines (yep, that happened). You’ll be responsible for plumbing damage if this guideline isn’t followed.
Please clean the grill after each use, including the grease tray, so the next guests can enjoy it too.
Notify us right away if anything breaks or isn’t working—we’re happy to fix it, and you won’t be charged for honest communication.
Interaction With Guests & Owners: Depending on the season, we may be around during your stay. We’re always happy to answer questions or offer local recommendations. If we're in town and you feel like joining us for dinner or a glass of wine with the locals (that’s us), you’re more than welcome to knock! If we’re away, our trusted neighbor will be available to assist you.
We’re excited to host you and hope your time in Highlands is filled with rest, beauty, and memorable moments. Thank you in advance for helping us care for this special place!

Out stay was very nice. The place is well appointed and well situated for a quiet time, but not too far from town. Enjoyed watching the squirrels gather hickory nuts for winter.
My family of 3 had a wonderful time. The apartment was cute, well appointed and very clean. It is a basement apartment so it’s a little dark but we spent most of our time outside so that wasn’t really an issue for us. Mirror Lake was great for canoeing. The location, on a lake, near Highlands can’t be beat!
The owners stayed in the house above us our entire week long stay. They were very quiet and extremely respectful of our space. Definitely would rent again!
Very quiet and cozy, just what we were looking for. Great location close to town but out enough to feel secluded. Thanks for having us!

Charming location
Nice, new property close to downtown Highlands. Owners are very responsive.
Very well laid out and comfortable. The description is accurate, the check-in was very smooth, and online manual is very clear. This was an excellent alternative to the local hotels.
Downstairs apartment was exactly as described, everything nice and working. Great porch.

Excellent stay!
We enjoyed our four night stay in the Highlands. The accommodations were perfectly situated a very short drive from town which served as an excellent hub for our adventures. The host/owner, Bryan, made sure our stay went as expected. The added bonus- my oldest son and I spent a significant amount of time catching fish off the dock. All in all a very special trip.

Woodland Retreat on the River
Well appointed retreat conveniently located to town and surrounding
day trips and activities. Private porch/balcony overlooking the trees
and stairs that lead to the riverfront dock below. Convenient having W/D in unit.
Clean and cozy. Five minutes from town and 20 min to an hour from other locations near by. We visited Lake Toxaway, Cashier’s, Cherokee and one day we even drove 2 hrs to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Cades Cove.

Wonderful stay
Property was as described and pictured. Everything was new with nice fixtures. We loved the spacious deck and access to the lake as well as the proximity to downtown. The owners were responsive via text when we reached out. Quiet neighborhood.
Cozy but more than big enough for the two of us. Awesome view of the lake, which has a lot of fish in it by the way. Beautiful views in the neighborhood. You feel like you're secluded, but you're not very far from downtown Highlands. The owners are great to deal with.
We loved the location ; it was quick and easy to get to downtown as well as to the falls , hikes, etc.
The home is just adorable! Cozy and yet open living area. Comfy bed in master suite.
Hopefully we will get back up there soon!
Great location, convenient to Main St. Only suggestions: No yard made it a bit challenging for puppy potty breaks. Need more outdoor lighting on exterior stairs.
Overall, nice for two adults. Price was reasonable.

Perfect size and location
This small, two bedroom bungalow is perfect for a couple looking to get away for a relaxing weekend. There is room for four, but my wife and I found it relaxing and quiet. It is very close to downtown, (about a mile and a half). Everything is new and well thought out. With the exception of all the rain, we had a great stay. Thanks Erin and Bryan.
