Aloha.
We love to sit and read and gaze out to sea. The week we stayed, the weather was tumultuous and dynamic. Howling wind, rain, a bit chilly... a different Kauai vacation than we imagined. The view from the condo made everything perfect, and the "beach-cabin fever" was cured at the resort's pool & hot tub, or by walking along the beach. The condo is very simple. It feels like you are transported back to the 60's or 70's, which we liked. Its basic and retro. The cool rattan furniture has recently been re-upholstered, but it should be noted that the coffee table and chairs are easy to stub your toes on :) The kitchen set up is very basic. We had everything we needed, but it would have been nice to have a few more dishes, as there is no dishwasher.
We tend to cook-in on vacation. We enjoyed the Waipa and Hanalei Farmer's Markets, and shopped at Foodland in Princeville for everything else. The Dolphin Fish Market in Hanalei has amazing giant sushi rolls, and fantastic fresh fish. We used the grill down at the pool most nights, which was fun. Sadly the pool hours are only 8am-10pm. There were a few times we would have enjoyed it earlier or later.
The beach in front of the condo is great for walking, and sometimes has cool shells, but is usually too dangerous to swim in. There are close beach options toward the end of the road, but if you want the calm beaches, you may need to head clockwise around the island. The Limahuli Gardens are spectacular, barely 5 minutes away... and an amazing view of the sunset is not far either, at Ke'e Beach. We can't wait to return.
Mahalo.
