"It was extremely cold on arrival - 12c inside. We contacted the host about something else (games room - see below) and were told that this is the owners intentional policy for 'sustainability reasons'! We had small children with us and the house did not fully warm up until the following evening - so the first 24 hours was uncomfortable - eating dinner and breakfast with coats on and cold children is not really a holiday!If we had been told it was a mistake and someone had just forgotten to turn on the heating, we'd have accepted it. But for this to be intentional seems crazy!Also, we had booked this house in part because of the games room. We found it locked, and contacted the host to see where the key was. Only to be told that the games room was "unavailable at the moment" - very frustrating. No offer of a small refund in compensation was made. It's frustrating to be told you will get something, and then not get it.The actual house was fairly nice and decent for our purposes, but the experience was not good due to the poor hosting."

"Chosen for a weekend to celebrate my birthday. The accommodation was warm, comfortable and had everything we needed. It was clean and well laid out. The owners were lovely , unobtrusive but available if needed. The hot tub could do with lights along the path, the solar lights there weren’t working. The lid is also very heavy and I couldn’t manage it on my own. "

"We could not have enjoyed our stay at the Ciderhouse Cottage any more! It was perfect for our needs, very clean, comfortable and practical without any unnecessary frills. The setting is wonderful and there is plenty of access to great local pubs, restaurants, shops in Monmouth while you can retreat to your own little cottage far from the noisy world. Dave was a wonderful host and especially kind and forbearing with my teenage daughters who showed a keen interest in his farm and Nell, the farm dog. We did local walks which were easy access and beautiful as well as day trips to Abergavenny, the Forest of Dean and Hay on Wye - all easy to reach.I hope that we can find an excuse to come back and we greatly appreciated the stay!"

"This is a beautiful old farmhouse. The exterior pictures on the listing don’t do it justice really. The bedrooms are lovely: all very large with crisp white bedding. The birdsong is like a symphony. We had a fire every night in the fireplace in the big lounge. It has 3 sofas so was really comfy and roomy. Kitchen is well equipped with a long table to eat in and then another absolutely enormous dining table in the dining room next to the kitchen. We loved the outdoor space which has a hammock chair and a 3 seater outdoor sofa and looks onto a lawn surrounded by trees. It could probably do with a couple more outdoor chairs as otherwise there is only a picnic bench which isn’t that close to the other chairs so we couldn’t all sit out together but it’s a small gripe. You can walk to Skenfrith Castle just a few minutes down the road and there is a path within the Castle grounds which leads down to a river where you can swim. Beautiful location with lots of walks, although very hilly (some hills of 45 degrees for quite a distance) so not the best for the older family members."
