"I didn’t know what to expect really, I’ve spent a lot of time in the Dales but have never stayed in a Shepherds Hut - wow!! I stayed in Herdwick and it was amazing! One of the quirkiest places I’ve stayed, it was warm (electric heater and underfloor heating make it toasty) and the bathroom was so warm with the heated towel rail. The bed was comfy, there was loads of underbed storage space, coat/clothes hooks on the walls which was enough for me! There was a welcome pack of breakfast items which was stacked and plenty of tea and coffee! There are plenty of walks in the area, there is a little welcome book which documents the staffs ‘favourite’ walks which is really easy to follow. Overall I would love to go back and can’t wait to rebook!"

"It’s difficult, because I can understand the wide range of reviews. The fact that there are no staff on site, coupled with an unusual door access system, makes thinking of this as a hotel (never mind the star rating) somewhat of a stretch. Having said that, a mobile number was provided if needed. Our room was clean (although somewhat dated) and had all the equipment we expected. One big issue that we only subsequently learned about was that some of the rooms did not have an en suite. Ours did (with a much-appreciated heated towel rail), but I would have been very annoyed if we had been allocated a room without. Make sure of your room number! The location is excellent. Parking is available, but limited, so don’t be the last to arrive. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and felt we had good value for money."

"Everything (Well Nearly Everything) was first class. The Hotel and Location was fantastic. The staff were brilliant and very friendly. The food was excellent. The only downside is that the rooms are tired and need refurb. The stairs carpet is well past it's sell by. But we would definitely stay again"

"This is a small hotel which has been decorated well. the staff are friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was really good The rooms are clean and lovely. However, there is no lift and there are 3 floors. there isn't a large separate lounge. However ,the views are amazing."

"We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage It is in a lovely location, rustic, but beautifully restored and upgraded inside and very comfortable even for family of five with large boys The only thing is that it is in a remote location and car is needed to get around, but for some that adds to the charm!"

"Lovely, family friendly cottage for a log weekend in the Dales. The cottage was well equipped and provided everything we needed. We really liked the selection of games and books. Good location, with the lovely Old School Tea Room and playground nearby, and a short walk to the pub. Handy for access to Grassington, Burnsall and Appletreewick and to access other parts of the Dales."
