Good, but could be great.
This is a beautiful art deco gem of a building. The proprietors are rightly proud of it. The welcome was friendly. The food was excellent. The restaurant was nice in spite of the lack of atmosphere- we were the only ones there! The room disappointed a little. It was small, and there was nowhere to put your bags except the floor or the bed. On the plus side, it was nicely done, and had a good coffee machine and quality biscuits. The biggest negative for me was the lack of a shelf in the bathroom- the only place for my toilet bag and makeup was the floor or the toilet seat! A couple of small improvements and this would get 5 stars from me.

Staff is nice and helpful. The hotel is near the border between Scotland and England, it only takes 10 minutes to walk from the hotel to the Sark Bridge (border).

Very spacious family room
The staff were brilliant and this was the perfect stop for the family it Gretna just a bit outside Carlisle. Affordable hotel and genuinely caring staff. It was older so don’t expect a fancy hotel but it was perfect for an overnight. Very spacious family room! Suited our needs fabulously. Be aware not a lot open for dinner if you arrive late! Many of takeaways in google are closed down or under construction.

Our property listing does advise that we do not have a lift within the property. Maybe on your next visit you might want to have a look at our rooms in the annexe building (room 11 & 12 are both located on the ground floor) and these rooms have bigger bathrooms with the en suite having a bath with overhead shower. Pleasant stay at the Hunters Lodge Aug-22
Lovely stay at the Hunters Lodge hotel in Gretna in August 22. Convenient location a short distance from the motorway and also nicely placed for access to local shops and restaurants. The owner Linda was brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, from recommending local attractions worth visiting to providing sellotape :-) Breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay, fantastic quality sausages, bacon and haggis, as well as plenty of other choices. Only a couple of minor negatives, no fridge in the room and we were located at the front of the hotel on the road - the windows are a bit dated and not particularly soundproof which means you can hear the traffic early in the morning. That said, we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly book again if we are up that way.

Excellent in every department
We stayed one night at hunters lodge as part of a trip around Scotland. Out of the four we stayed in it was without a doubt the best. From the moment we walk in we were treated more like family than guest. Warm welcome, lovely clean and spacious Room. Food was lovely . Nothing to much trouble. Will definitely go back and stay for longer next time.

Perfect hotel to stay if you're going to a wedding. It was warm, clean, cozy and the staff were lovely. We had a problem with the shower but they soon fixed it. The bed is comfy and we all (party of 5 friends) slept well. We didnt have the breakfast on this stay as it was too early for us. I'd definitely recommend this bnb. The price was good too.

Overnight stay - would recommend
We visited Hunters Lodge Hotel as a stop over on our way to Aviemore in Scotland. Greeted by Linda on arrival - friendly and showed us to our room. Very good evening meal and an excellent selection of Gins, which Linda was able to give some information on. Good breakfast Overall would stay there again and recommend to others
