Super friendly and helpful staff especially Joe and Keri. Lovely owners who chatted with us each night and gave us tips on what to see. Comfortable bed and room.
Really old buildings so don’t expect it to be pristine but it has loads of character and history.
We ate in the pub both nights, the food was good, served very quickly considering it is all cooked to order and was fairly priced.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back.
The hospitality was some of the best i have ever experienced. The food was great, the beer garden was perfect. Brian and Sue and the entire staff were absolutely the best and will forever be a memorable part of our trip. Yes, the building is old, 1600s. To us, that is a key part of the charm. You wont be disappointed. Dont hesitate. Dont overthink it. Book your stay here.
Staff are warm welcoming and friendly. Food is great especially the full english breakfast. Rooms are clean beds are really comfy. Its a 17th century building with all the quirks you would expect. There is a huge beer garden and parking in a nice village location
From the moment i got there i was made to feel welcome, its a lovely old building with tons of character, even down to little mice painted on the skirting boards.
The chef went above and beyond to accommodate meals and even came out to chat to understand what i wanted.
I will certainly be staying there again and would recommend to anyone.

Friendly staff and a nice place. The rooms need modernisation
Great 17th century hotel/pub full of history and character. Our room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. We had an on suite and this was a good size. We only had breakfast but it was lovely and the service was great. We only stayed here to break a journey up but we’re really glad we did. Would definitely stay here again.
A pleasant nights stay. Large room and ensuite. Noise from the bar and pub garden but to be expected as rooms are over the pub , but it was quiet after 11pm. Breakfast choice, cereal and full English which was good.
Our stay at the Leather Bottle was excellent. We were made to feel welcome from the minute we arrived. The staff were very friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
The garden area was good, where we were able to eat evening meals in the sunshine and pleasant surroundings. The menu suited our taste, perfectly; breakfast was also good and freshly cooked to order.
We had a nice, relaxing time at this hotel, with reminders and references to, Dickens' enjoyment of his stays there.
Very interesting hotel with lots of character. Friendly staff. Poor ensuite, too small, no water power on the shower and basin not suitable for a wet shave.
Comfortable bed but squeaky floors.
Food poor quality
The Leather Bottle was well worth our stay. It’s historic links to Charles Dickens makes it a must visit for those interested in the author. Full of photos. drawings and personal items belonging to the author. Apart from that this 500 year old building is well worth a visit in it’s entirety. Cosy clean and comfortable breakfast included, with a excellent bar although no Campari when we stayed there. A good menu with plenty of choice. Overall well with a visit.

Not so good
Nice pub but main road which runs outside the front of the pub is very busy day and night our room was at the front of the pub so we got all the noise also it was very hot so we had to have the window open, the pub could do with some t l c a bit run down, in our room the ceiling paper hanging down. And the shower not so good, how ever the food was good and the breakfast was okay just the location of having it was not ideal ( small room at the back of the pub) staff very friendly and helpful, the short break was okay but we would not use this pub again for a stop over.
Positive notes:
The building is stunning. Absolutely beautiful. It also has links to Charles Dickens and actually features in one of his novels.
Staff are really friendly and helpful.
I ordered a black forest cheesecake dessert in the restaurant. Honestly, one of the nicest things I've ever tried. Amazing.
Negative notes:
Purely related to accommodation.
I stayed in room 4 so can't comment on the other rooms.
Bed was extremely uncomfortable. The mattress was like the cheapest option available from a discount bed store.
Pillows hard and uncomfortable.
The room was very cold so I asked if there was a problem with the heating. Someone came up and told me that it was set to come on at 15 degrees. I said that I normally set mine to 19 or 20. Got an "oh,well". Heating was not put on.
Suggestion: set master temperature at 21 degrees and let the customer decide what temperature they would like their own room to be....
TV was a 15" monitor on the wall at an odd angle. Cables feeding it through cheap plastic conduit unsecured to wall and at an angle. Just shoddy.
Paint damage everywhere.
Creaking and uneven floorboards.
Worn, dirty carpets. Poor tiling. Poor plumbing and fixtures.
Just overall shoddy and unkempt.
I think this place really has great potential but it's certainly not there yet.
Maybe the owner should spend a night in each room and identify the problems from a guests perspective. A small bit of work will make a massive difference and this place could, and
