You'll find a selection of local shops, traditional guesthouses, and eateries dotted along Hauptstrasse and the surrounding lanes, making it very walkable. The local church and the historic old mill are prominent landmarks in this compact village centre.

For those travelling with family, staying in the central village also offers convenience. Children will enjoy the open spaces and the general quietness of the area, and you're never far from a local bakery for treats or a small playground.

The best time to go to Gotthards for pleasant weather and outdoor activities is generally from late spring to early autumn, specifically May to September.

During these months, you'll experience warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours, which are ideal for exploring the surrounding nature and the town's historical sites. The average temperatures range from 15°C to 25°C, making it comfortable for hiking, cycling, and enjoying the scenic landscapes of Hessen. Families often find July and August particularly appealing as this coincides with many school holidays, offering a relaxed atmosphere for children to enjoy the outdoor spaces and local attractions. Many local festivals and outdoor events are scheduled during these summer months, providing entertainment for all ages.

For couples looking for a more tranquil experience, late May, early June, or September offer a lovely balance. The weather is still very good, but there are fewer crowds, allowing for a more intimate exploration of the region's vineyards, historic castles, and picturesque villages.
