This neighbourhood is the historic heart of Gostau and offers a truly central and convenient base for exploring. It's very walkable, with cobblestone streets and charming architecture. The Markt square itself is a focal point, often hosting local markets and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. Key landmarks like the Gostau Cathedral and the Old Town Hall are just a short stroll away.

For couples, the Old Town is an excellent choice. You'll find many boutique hotels tucked away in historic buildings, offering a more intimate and personal experience. Strolling hand-in-hand through the narrow lanes, discovering hidden courtyards, and enjoying a quiet dinner at a traditional restaurant perfectly encapsulates a romantic getaway.

Solo travellers will also appreciate the Old Town's convenience and the ease of getting around on foot. With a wide selection of eateries and shops close by, it's easy to enjoy the town's offerings without needing extensive travel.

The best time to go to Gostau is during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the natural beauty of Saxony is at its peak.

During late spring, the landscape around Gostau is lush and green, with wildflowers blooming, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling. Temperatures are generally mild, great for exploring the Gostau National Park and its trails without the intense heat of summer. It's also a good time to visit some of the local vineyards as they begin to prepare for the growing season.

Early autumn offers equally agreeable weather, with comfortable temperatures and often clear skies. This period is particularly appealing for those interested in the region's culinary offerings, as it coincides with the grape harvest in the nearby Elbe Valley. There are often local festivals celebrating wine and food, providing a delightful way to experience the local culture.
