"This is a quaint old style Bed and Breakfast, without modern amenities There are many stairs to the rooms with multiple landings and no lift. Not suitable for the mobility impaired. The single room I had was small and very hot ( in the eaves and one small skylight), but there was a fan in the room that helped quite a bit. Staff very friendly and a good breakfast. Pleasant enough, even with the stairs. "

"Really friendly staff. We couldn't check in early - which we knew in advance - but were able to leave our bags, and they were in our room waiting for us when we did check in. We got the vaulted room we had requested in advance. It was cosy, clean, and comfortable - even got tips for where to buy the pillows they use as they were lovely! Would definitely recommend and will use again next time we visit York. "

"Following three failed attempts to check in on arrival due to an unmanned desk, the rest of the stay was excellent, mostly down to the wonderful Sunny whom ensured our stay was comfortable and with plenty of supplies due to the weather conditions. The only downside was a faulty light in our room which constantly flashed on and off during the night which disturbed our sleep a little. We reported it twice, hoping for repair or a change of room but it was a weekend so no maintenance was available...

"Greeted by a lovely receptionist who gave lots of information about the stay. Nice modern room with aircon and a nice size shower. The bed was on the hard size for me. I can see why the room came with earplugs two packs would have been nice since I had to give them to my partner so I was left hearing others move about. Nice not to worry about parking. Will stay again."

"Just had a 2 night stay at Ascot House with our dog Sid. I can’t praise it enough for cleanliness, breakfast, room size and decor with a fabulous bathroom. The staff at breakfast were extremely friendly and helpful (I have Coeliac disease which they catered for very well). Owner was very welcoming and even came to personally say goodbye. The house was beautiful and very elegant."

"Second stay in one of their single rooms, so knew what to expect, but keep in mind they're very small. A larger person wouldn't be able to get in the shower. Great location, good value and friendly staff"

"I loved my time here. It's a very comfortable guest house, my room was small, but absolutely suited to my needs, larger rooms are available for more than 1 traveller, reasonablypriced, too. The staff is also small, but so helpful, friendy and polite. Its located in a lovely quiet area, with a reasonable walk to the city but manageable if you have no mobility issues, but taxis or buses are easy to come by. I enjoyed my weekend immensely and would encourage others to follow suit. *****"

"Great place for a short stay. Clean & good facilities bit of confusion over payment…. Thought paid up front but hotel said not… so this is main reason for 4 not 5. Also close to late night pubs/ clubs…. So if you’re wanting to go to see early… probably not the place for you as the music can be quite loud. However, not an issue for us & slept really well. Ultimately good value for money & would stay again."

"The location is fabulous, the apartment is fantastic and amenities great. The beds were not great, very uncomfortable. They advertise luggage storage and before we checked in they stored our luggage and then took it to our room when the room was ready, that was awesome, but when we asked for luggage storage on our check out we were told we would have to pay. Staff were very friendly and helpful."
