We loved the farmhouse and surrounding property. Plenty of room to spread out and comfortable, clean amenities with fully stocked pantry. We hope to visit again.
Great getaway! We swam, fished, roasted marshmallows, and wandered the fields. The house is very comfortable, and the porch and patio were also wonderful for enjoying the outdoors. Easy day-trip distance to Richmond or Charlottesville.
This was our third time visiting, we absolutely love this location. Exceptionally clean, well stocked and owners are accommodating and kind. Location is private and beautiful. Before we left we where already talking about when we want to return.
We had an amazing time! The house, grounds, and pool are beautiful. Lovely furnishings, very clean, and well appointed. It was a perfect family get away for our three generation group. Highly recommend!
Had a great few days. It is a beautiful property. Secluded and tranquil. Has everything you need but town is still close by in case you forget something.
Wonderful stay in a very peaceful location! We enjoyed swimming in the pool, sitting on the front porch reading, and fishing at the lake. Just want to give an FYI that there is a caretaker who lives on the property and he came over/we saw him pretty much every day. Not a complaint or anything just want to let others know! Overall we absolutely loved our stay and look forward to returning in the future.
We stayed 4 nights at the Farm, which used to be a working dairy farm from the pictures inside. It's really just as lovely as the pictures convey. The pool is large and beautiful and the grounds are immense. We had our golden retriever with us and you'd think she was just released from prison (of course, do be careful if your dog is a wanderer!). We enjoyed hours in the pool, cornhole, badminton, and game nights inside. The house has a rustic feel (in a good way) but is immaculate and very well-cared for. Kitchen extremely well-supplied, too. If you're looking for some away time to recharge with your family, I don't think you can do better. Communication with the owner (CC) was great; I generally heard back within an hour to any question I had before arrival. They do have a long-term tenant who lives in a separate property several hundred yards away, but we never actually saw him and I don't think you would feel any intrusion on the wonderful privacy of the Farm.
Oh, gosh. What can I say about this property? I rented the house with my young adult daughters during the first week of September, and from the moment we drove the long driveway up to the house, we were all in love. Honestly, I don't think the pictures do it justice. The living quarters were bigger than I envisioned; the pool was even more awesome than it looks, and the surroundings way more beautiful than I imagined. Being there had a magical, surreal quality to it that was so unique. On top of that, Jim was so responsive. After a tree came down in a storm, blocking our exit, Jim was there within an hour to remove it. When the propane was empty, Jim was there immediately to replace it. And so on. We will definitely be back.
This property had the most beautiful sunrise and sunsets and it's set in a very private and peaceful space. My kids and I loved the pool, but also the general ambiance within the home. Not to mention a large kitchen with a variety of appliances.
One of the best equipped kitchens in a rental house we have ever stayed in. The house is not close to a lot so a lot of driving is necessary if you want to see things beyond the property, we didnt mind though. We welcomed the quiet and silence for the week. We loved that our furry baby was allowed to come with. The outdoor spotlights did not do anything to provide light at night, that was our one complaint. Also that the pool light didnt work so we couldnt be in the wonderful pool after dark. Wonderful historic property.
Our family had a relaxing stay at the farm. The pool was crystal clear. The house is and acerage was beautiful. My husband loved fishing in the 6 acre lake, my kids loved the pool, my husky loved thr 630 acres, and I loved it all. So much history and charm on the farm.
My family stayed at this wonderful Farm House. The pool was fantastic and it was very clean. We were around an hour or so from Williamsburg, Bush Gardens, James Town, and other museums. My Son enjoyed the pond and had a great time catching fish. This is farm country it is quiet and at times you can here the cows moo on the next farm. The house was clean and comfortable. The owners were nice and they answered all my questions. We loved the time we were there!
We had a very nice stay. Fishing was great. Property was as advertised. Very peaceful. Saw more goldfinches than we've ever seen before ! We would definitely come again. Minor concerns: (1) Wish the grass had been cut so we could have played croquet. (2) Grass coming up in the tennis court could be problem if you play a serious game.
The house itself is beautiful, clean, decorated very nicely. It is stocked with plenty of cookware and utensils. It is so quiet there at night- what a change from the city! The grounds are well kept and we were in the pool everyday. My husband enjoyed fishing and caught a few brag-worthy fish. If you enjoy bird watching you will love this place. I saw goldfinches, blue birds, indego buntings, 2 types of egrets, and many more. One night we had a bonfire and watched the bats. Our two huskies loved the place as well, and my boy dog was very much against leaving at the end.
Pros: quiet, peaceful, stunningly gorgeous, sparkling pool, comfortably close to offsite activities
Cons: My only slight complaint was that durring our short stay some non-emergency landscaping was scheduled which interfered with our secluded getaway. I feel this could have been arranged between bookings as we felt awkward swimming and reading by the pool as someone worked right next to us, and though the landscaper did a great job it was jarring having loud gas engine running although it was brief. Obviously a place this nicely manicured will need frequent upkeep and the owner did give notice.
Things to note: there is someone else living in the building beside the house, I think it is the caretaker. He was quiet and did not bother us at all. There are full trees between the buildings that allow for privacy
Overall I highly recommend this place for some rest, relaxation and beautiful wildlife watching!
Great house in a great location, and the pool is wonderful. Loved every minute of our 25 night stay, as well as our 14 night stay in 2021. Planning to stay even more nights next summer.
While a pleasant 2 hour drive for us, only 30-45 minutes for people in and around Richmond. A real gem in a bucolic location. We could not have found a better place.
The owners are fantastic and respond quickly to all questions.
Our little family thoroughly enjoyed our stay! What a beautiful house and property! CC and Jim were very responsive and helped salvage our vacation plans after a storm the previous week left the rental without power and with several trees down. At first we thought we would have to cancel the entire week, but when the power was restored quicker than expected, CC and Jim worked hard to get the property ready for us and we were still blessed with 5 wonderful nights at La Vallee! Thank you CC and Jim for working so hard to make it work! We hope to be back again soon!
