And this is after several calls and texts with the owner as well as chatting and calling with VRBO several times, including talking to their manager who promised she will escalate and have someone call me but never did. "There were 2 families traveling (1 family of 3 and the other was us, a couple) this was our 4th trip to Matera and 1st for our friends (family of 3). I booked this hotel because, the place we normally stay was not available. If you are reading this review, and are booking through Expedia, just know that a “standard” room is NOT cave lodging. The woman checking us in (I’m sorry that I don’t have her name) upgraded our friends to a luxury deluxe suite. I was very happy about this because I wanted this Matera experience for them. Everything else was perfect and would stay again but I’ll make sure that I’m staying in a cave room."
