"Good location but the check in was not organized. There was someone in the parking spot. They need more explanation about the permits which you must display. In the end I spoke to the concierge to sort it out. The place smelled of smoke. It was a good size and location if a little worn in places. The kitchen isn’t bad and it’s large space. "The room was lovely staff very friendly and helpful entrance hall was stunning. Lifts were old and poorly maintained. The breakfast was terrible. I would return but I’d definitely skip the breakfast"

"The inside of the hotel looks dated and tired and is certainly in need of an uplift. The room I was assigned had air-conditioning that did not worked. When I asked, the counter staff stated that the entire hotel was facing this issue and hence could not cater to a room change. I was given an extra fan (which did not work, and I had to ask for a change), but even having two fans in the room at night still constituted a sauna and sleepless nights. And these two days also overlapped with a heatwave. A very belated internet checks showed reviews dating back years that the hotel has (and remains yet unfixed) AC problems. Also, after I got some laundry done, I was requested to pick up the clean laundry from the front counter myself, no reason was given. Throughout my travels, I have never had to self-pickup clean laundry, it is sad to note that even 3-star hotels in less established countries have done better than the Cardiff Marriott in this regard. The Marriott brand has always been trusted, and I had booked this stay without the slightest hesitation with no additional homework done. Instead of the satisfactory experience I had expected, I was disappointed that the condition of the property and the unresolved issues encountered during my stay did not reflect the standards I normally associate with the Marriott brand."

"This was a great hotel for many reasons. The staff was very friendly including Omar at breakfast, the trainee receptionist gentleman and receptionist lady and David at the bar. The gym is the best I’ve seen - very extensive over two floor with a very wide range of equipment. It also has an amazing pool and spa. Only the breakfast quality was average but decent for the price. Room was great but better sound proofing needed. Very good location - heart of the city. Overall, it was excellent - would love to stay there again. It’s worth the price."

That’s it. I asked for a map, she gave a booklet, said turn left, turn left, turn right. Much better reception at The Parkgate. Warm welcome, invited us to rest our feet, directions of things to do, 100% stay at The Parkgate. Avoid Hilton Cardiff."
