Step into the world of America's frontier pioneers at the Spring Ghost Town Museum. This mock settlement was built to resemble many similar towns that covered the state of Colorado after the 19th century gold rush. Most of its artefacts and buildings were, in fact, recovered from authentic ghost towns. Admire the wooden sidewalks, built in front of antique storefronts, that are reminiscent of Wild West movies.
The Colorado gold rush began in 1858, when prospectors flocked to the newly discovered mining areas in the state. Settlements popped up quickly, however their existence was determined by the supply of gold in the area. In many cases, settlements had to be abandoned, leaving behind numerous ghost towns around Colorado. Learn about this fascinating era in the museum's movie room and then discover the process of recovery that led to these artefacts being stored in this institution.
The makeshift town features a number of common facilities of the time. See cells in the town jail, medicinal brews in the apothecary and sturdy bedding in the motel. Rooms are furnished with period furniture and some feature animated figures depicting famous pioneers.

Find the Ghost Town Museum two miles from the Colorado Springs city centre. Get there using a bus route that stops just outside or hire a car and use the museum's free parking. The museum charges admission, though there is a concession for students and groups. Guided tours charge extra. The museum is open every day except national holidays.
