Victorian ocean front cottage on the shores of the highest tides in the world.

Victorian ocean front cottage on the shores of the highest tides in the world.

8/10 Good
"The view was priceless. You can really relax on the terrace while watching the tides and the beautiful sunsets. The access to the water via the stairs is a particular highlight, especially for the kids. Thanks to the large window front, there was also a wonderful view while dining and from the gallery. However, light-sensitive guests should use the lower bedroom with blackout blinds for sleeping. The apartment was very clean, and the furnishings largely matched the photos. However, the TV and kitchen appliances—especially the dishwasher—are in need of an update.Overall, we had a lovely and relaxing stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Freeport?
The best area to stay in Freeport is the village centre itself, particularly along Main Street, as it offers the most convenient access to amenities and local experiences.Freeport is a small, linear village on Long Island, Nova Scotia. Main Street runs through the heart of the village, providing easy access to the ferry terminal, local shops, and eateries. Many accommodations here offer views of the bay and the fishing boats. Its compact nature means most points of interest are easily reachable on foot. For travellers seeking a tranquil escape, staying near the village centre provides a relaxing base. You're close to the wharves where you can watch the fishing boats, and it's an ideal spot for enjoying the slow pace of island life. The proximity to the ferry also makes day trips to other parts of Long Island or the mainland straightforward.Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will appreciate the quiet charm of Freeport. The area allows for leisurely walks along the shore, enjoying fresh seafood, and experiencing the natural beauty of the Bay of Fundy without the hustle and bustle of larger towns.
When is the best time to go to Freeport?
The best time to visit Freeport, Nova Scotia, is during the summer months, specifically from June to September, when the weather is at its most pleasant and the natural attractions are fully accessible.During this period, the days are long, and temperatures are generally mild, making it ideal for outdoor activities like whale watching, hiking, and exploring the coastline. The waters are also warmer for boat tours, increasing your chances of spotting various whale species that frequent the Bay of Fundy. Many local businesses, such as restaurants and tour operators, are fully operational, ensuring you have a wide range of options for dining and experiences. For visitors keen on wildlife, especially whale watching, July and August often provide the best opportunities to see humpback, fin, and minke whales. The waters around Freeport are rich in marine life during these months, offering spectacular viewing experiences. The summer also allows for comfortable exploration of Balancing Rock Trail without the chill of the shoulder seasons. If you prefer fewer crowds and don't mind slightly cooler temperatures, early June or September can also be excellent.
