Depending on where you're coming from, your journey to Rab could be a breeze or it could go on forever. Here are some useful travel tips that will help you start your unforgettable escape on a positive note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Air travel can be a great experience if you've got all the right things. First of all you'll need toiletry items, such as toothpaste, a toothbrush and some deodorant, a clean set of clothes and something to read. Next, find a spot in your carry-on bag for your electronic gadgets, chargers, your important medications and perhaps a quality neck pillow as well. • Most of us have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of inactivity. To lessen your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks or tights and move your lower limbs often.

• First things first. Your boarding pass and travel ID will need to be presented to airport security. Keep them at hand so you don't have to dig around for them.
• Next up is the X-ray machine. Remove anything metal on you that is likely to set off the alarm. This includes items like earphones or headphones, as well as bulky coats or jackets. They'll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.
• All your electronics, including your phone and laptop, must also be separately scanned.
• Want to bring along your favourite hand cream? No problem. As long as it's in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a zip-close bag, you're allowed to bring it with you in your carry-on baggage.
• Lightweight sneakers are a sensible footwear choice as you're less likely to have to remove them when going through security. Big boots and other bulky shoes are often subjected to extra screening.
• Sharp or pointed items can't be taken on board. They'll be seized at security, so pack them in your checked baggage.
