Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Pack all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) won't be allowed on. Sharp or pointed objects, like your beloved Swiss Army knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosols and fuels, are also restricted.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your top priority when deciding what to wear on your flight. Loose clothing is a wise option, as are roomy, closed-toe shoes.
• It's likely you've heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by long periods of inactivity. To lower your risk on board, stay hydrated, consider wearing compression socks or tights and do gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat.

As seasoned travellers know, the secret is to be prepared before you get to airport security. That way, you'll be hopping onto that plane to Puerto Rico in the blink of an eye. Follow these helpful tips and get your holiday off to a terrific start:

• Your ID and travel documents will need to be inspected by airport security personnel. Keep them at hand so you don't have to dig around for them.
• Next up is the X-ray machine. Empty your pockets and remove anything metal that is likely to set off the alarm. This includes things like headphones or earphones, as well as bulky coats or jackets. They'll need to be placed on the conveyor belt for screening.
