Cheap Flights to Pelican

Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you've prepared well enough. We've made a list of handy tips and tricks that will get your Pelican escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Firstly, and most importantly, put in your passport, official ID, bank cards and vital medications. Next, you'll want some in-flight entertainment to while away the time. A thrilling book and a phone crammed with your favourite movies are some fantastic options. If you plan to take a short snooze, a quality neck pillow and a pair of noise-cancelling headphones will also come in handy. Finally, leave space for a toothbrush and some facial wipes so you'll touchdown looking and feeling fresh.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Leave all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by authorities. Pointed or sharp objects, like your beloved Swiss Army knife, and dangerous goods which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, flares and fireworks, are also not allowed.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your main concern when deciding what to wear on board. Loose clothing is a sensible choice, as are flat, closed-toe shoes.
• Most of us have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To lower your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks and do gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat.

The trick is to be organised before you get to the security gate. That way, you'll be boarding that plane to Pelican before you know it. Follow these tips and get your holiday off to a fantastic start:

• Airport security personnel first need to establish that you have a valid passport and matching boarding pass before you can proceed any further. Have them ready for inspection.
• Next up, both you and your carry-on bag must be X-rayed. To speed things up, take off anything that is likely to set the alarm off. Items like your belt, coat and earphones will be required to go through the machine.
• All electronic devices, including your tablet and phone, are also required to be scanned.
• Want to bring along your favourite hand and nail cream? Not a problem. As long as the volume is no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a clear zip-lock bag, it's OK to bring with you in your carry-on bag.
• Lightweight sneakers are a sensible footwear choice as you're less likely to have to remove them when going through security. Boots and other heavy shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
• Sharp or pointed objects (like knives and scissors) are prohibited in the cabin. They'll be seized at security, so pack them in your checked luggage.
