• Air travel can be a comfortable experience if you pack the right gear. • Most of us have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by long periods of sitting. To lower your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks and keep your legs and feet moving.

As seasoned travellers know, the secret is to be organised before you get to the security gate. That way, you'll be boarding that plane to Monterey in no time at all. Follow these tips and get your trip off to a great start:

• Your boarding pass and passport will need to be shown to airport security personnel. Keep them at hand so you don't have to dig around for them.
