Depending on where you're coming from, your journey to Maayafushi could be as easy as pie or it could go on forever. We've put together some handy tips that will help you start your next big adventure on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Flying can be a cruisy experience if you carry the right things. First things first, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a fresh change of clothes and a good read. Secondly, leave space in your bag for your electronic gadgets, chargers, any daily medications and maybe a cosy neck pillow as well. Last, but definitely not least, remember to take your passport, travel documents and your credit cards.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by authorities. Sharp objects, like your Swiss Army knife, and dangerous goods which are flammable or explosive, such as flares, bleaching agents and strong acids, are also not allowed.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your main concern when deciding what to wear on board. Loose, breathable clothing is a smart choice, as are flat, enclosed shoes.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can pose a risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clots forming due to poor circulation, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression tights or socks.

• Keep your travel documents and ID within close reach. They're the first items you'll be asked to show at security.
• The X-ray machine comes next. Empty your pockets and remove anything metal that is likely to set off the alarm. This includes items like earphones or headphones, as well as bulky coats or jackets. They'll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.
• For just a few moments, you'll need to unplug from the digital world. Your phone, laptop and any other electronic gadgets also need to be sent through the scanner.
