Depending on where you're coming from, your trip to Florida could be completely stress-free or it could drag on forever. We've put together some handy tips that will help you start your next great adventure on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Flying can be a great experience if you carry the right things. Firstly, you'll want some basic toiletries, such as lip balm and hand cream, a clean pair of socks and a few magazines. Secondly, leave space in your hand luggage for your electronic gadgets, chargers, medications and perhaps a neck pillow too. Lastly, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and some money.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Double-check that you don't have a pocket knife hiding in the bottom of your carry-on luggage. Other restricted items include flammable or explosive products, such as bleach and fuel, and gels and liquids in containers larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres).

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your number one priority when choosing what to wear on your flight. Loose, breathable clothing is a smart choice, as are flat, closed-toe shoes.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by extended periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Try to wander around the cabin or do some simple exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.

It's easy — be prepared. We've pulled together some helpful hints for an easy trip through security. Look out Florida, here you come:

• First things first. Your boarding pass and travel ID will need to be inspected by airport security. Keep them someplace accessible so you don't hold up the queue.
• Time to strip down. Well sort of. Your jacket, belt, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your headphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them before your turn.

• Lightweight sneakers are a practical footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when going through security. Boots and other bulky shoes are often subjected to extra screening.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, pack them safely away in your checked baggage. They won't be allowed on board.
