If you're not prepared, airports and flying can be challenging. But there's no need to hit the panic button just yet. Follow these handy hints for a pain-free start to your time in Fancun. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• First of all, pack in your passport, official ID, wallet and daily medications. Next, you'll want some extra in-flight entertainment to while away the hours. A juicy novel and a laptop filled with your favourite shows are some terrific options. If you plan to catch up on some sleep, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of noise-cancelling headphones will also be useful. Finally, find room for a toothbrush and some facial wipes to ensure you hop off the plane looking fresh and ready to go.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• While the list of restricted items can differ between air carriers, the general rule to follow is nothing flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes screwdrivers, knives, spray paint and flares.
