Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you've planned ahead. We've made a list of handy travel tips that will help get your Copan escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• It's easy — first, pack in your passport, travel docs, credit cards and medications. Next, you'll want some in-flight entertainment to while away the hours. A thrilling book and a tablet crammed with your favourite movies are good options. If you plan to catch forty winks, a comfy neck pillow and some earplugs will also come in handy. • Comfort should be your top priority when deciding what to wear on your flight. Loose clothing is a wise choice, as are enclosed shoes like sneakers.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by lengthy periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Try to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs or do some gentle exercises in your seat to promote better circulation.

• First things first. Your ID and travel documents will need to be inspected by airport security personnel. Keep them handy so you don't hold up the queue.
• Your belt, coat, keys and other items in your pocket, like your headphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make your life easier by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
• All your electronic gadgets, including your phone and laptop, must also be separately scanned.
• Any liquids or gels, such as perfume or hairspray, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). Also, they all must fit inside a quart-size (one litre), zip-lock bag.
• Slip-on shoes are a sensible footwear choice as you're less likely to have to remove them when going through security. Big boots and heavier-style shoes are often subjected to extra screening.
• Sharp items such as knives and scissors are not allowed on board. They'll be seized at security, so pack them in your checked bags.
