Shadow Ridge Retreat | Pet Friendly + Stunning Mountain Views
This cozy cabin is the perfect mountain sanctuary for you and your family— just as it is for the monarch butterflies that reside here. If you've been searching for a private cabin in the woods with enchanting views, look no further. With such a great location, it's easy to take in the expansive mountain and valley views, whether you're gathered around the fireplace inside or resting on the back deck.
As the sun goes down, you can visit the Monarch Butterfly sanctuary just below the cabin, and once it's dark, you can roast marshmallows, stargaze, and swap stories around the outdoor fire pit. This retreat will allow you to enjoy the best of what nature has to offer while still being conveniently located just a short drive away from Hendersonville, Arden, Fletcher, and Asheville. We highly recommend local favorites, Black Bear Coffee Co. (10 minutes away) for your coffee fix, Two Trees Distilling Company (13 minutes away) for sustainable fine spirits, Sierra Nevada Brewery (25 minutes away) for local craft beer, and the colorful Blue Sky Cafe (15 minutes away) for a quick bite!
Shadow Ridge Retreat is a 20-minute drive from the Asheville Regional Airport and a 22-minute drive from the WNC Agriculture Center, host to the annual NC Mountain State Fair, Vintage Market Days, and countless other fairs, trade shows, and events throughout the year. It's also within a 35-minute drive of Asheville's award-winning restaurants and attractions.
House Layout: This well-built log home features an open floor plan with a two-story great room with TV for streaming, a wood-burning fireplace, plenty of natural light, a primary bedroom on the main level with a king bed and full bath (accessible from bedroom and hallway), a guest bedroom upstairs with a bunk bed and also a full bed (streaming TV in this room). The upper level offers an open, loft-style bedroom with a queen bed and a full bathroom in the hallway. Outside, there is a fire pit for your enjoyment.
Please note: This home is pet-friendly with an additional fee. Parts of the road leading to the home are narrow. The last half mile is gravel, and a high clearance vehicle is highly recommended in the event the road is rutted out after weather. There is 1 exterior camera facing the driveway/walkway to the front door.

The cabin is fantastic, large, comfortable and very secluded. Yet, your 30 minutes from Asheville, I’d certainly say here again,. The deck which wraps round 3 sides of huge.stunning place to stay
It was all we could hope for. Secluded, quiet and the views were great. Cannot say enough about how great Greybeard was as the agent. They were prompt and truly went the extra mile for our anniversary. VRBO made it happen.
the view was great, the location good, having fire wood available was a plus
On the down side directions for where to turn off to the house where difficult after dark, the filthy dishwasher unusable until I cleaned it and ran it twice with Lysol on the first run it was full of some black goop
Jacuzzi tube was only a bathtub, not working and the filter part needed to be cleaned as well
Outstanding experience. House was amazingly clean and in great condition. Porch had wonderful modular seating that was in new condition. Communication was clear, frequent, and very helpful. Not only did they send all information in a timely manner, they called to ensure I received everything and to answer any questions. The view was well worth the drive up the narrow, gravel road. Internet worked well, which was surprising given the location. Highly recommend. Thank you for the wonderful experience!
This place was beautiful. I would stay again. I was a little worried about making it up the last bit of gravel road to the house in my sedan but made it fine with AWD. It’s about 20 minutes to Hendersonville which we love. It would be ideal for a couple +/- kids but definitely not more than 2 adult couples given the layout with the loft and small bath upstairs. My 2 friends and I were fine tho. Only gave 4 stars for cleanliness because of the dust bunnies under furniture but that is easy fix. The porch is so wonderful and faces east and we spent hours out there. Thank you!
This was a nice property and the location was great for where we wanted to be for the weekend. Interior was clean and communication with property manager was excellent.
We loved this house, absolutely awesome! The dishwasher should be replaced, but other than that the house and property more than make up for a few minor things.
We had an incredible long weekend. Stunning views! Cabin is easy to access and super convenient to Asheville. The cabin is beautiful, wonderfully stocked and the property management group is top notch!!!
Amazing cabin with great views. It was wonderful to wake up to the mountains with a warm cup of coffee. Cabin was very cozy. Nice fireplace for cool nights. We had an excellent time.
The cabin was exactly what we wanted with sweeping views, a cozy fireplace, and comfy beds. We got to explore many beautiful hiking trails and enjoy Asheville, then return home for a snack and tea by the fire. While it was a drive up the mountain to get there, the privacy and views made it worth it.
We had such a great time staying at this beautiful house. It was very clean and well-maintained and the rental company was absolutely amazing. We couldn’t be more pleased with the decision of renting this house. You will not be disappointed.
The cabin is close to hiking trails, waterfalls, and all that Asheville has to offer. It also offers a secluded setting to just relax. We used the back deck for morning coffee and afternoon glasss of wine. It was peaceful - and beautiful. The cabin is clean and organized. We were thrilled with our stay there.
Feels off the beaten path when you first drive in from Interstate 26, but actually you are only 15-20 minutes to restaurants, Whole Foods, fresh market, Publix etc. We came with our 2 dogs and the hiking trails practically across the street were wonderful. The back porch was a great place to lounge and take a nap in the sun. I would definitely rent this little gem again.
The property is as pretty as it looks from the pictures. It's really a relaxing place to be. Very well equipped. In a summer stay, getting up the access road was just about all our minivan could handle (rough road up a steep hill). No way it's doable without AWD/4WD in the winter.
