About this property
Rustic loft in rural village 25 minutes south of Carcassonne
If you're looking for a safe haven from which to explore the mysteries of the Cathar castles, discover delightful walks in the Malepère Massif or simply unwind in a peaceful space for yourselves, a Razès Gîtes may be right for you.
Located in a quiet, rural village, guests have the opportunity to slow down the pace of time and re-discover a sense of inner peace and calm while gently re-connecting with the sights and sounds of nature all around.
There are two gîtes at Razès – Soujeole and Corbières - both suitable for short stays or long lets. Each gîte is ideally suited for a couple and has its own private entrance, parking, fully equipped kitchen, dining and lounge areas, double bedroom and bath/shower room, wifi access. They may be rented together or individually.
Guests of Soujeole and Corbières gîtes have a choice of 3 shared yet secluded gardens and the Grange at their disposal for outdoor dining and relaxation. The Grange houses: the outdoor kitchen, washing machine, BBQ, table tennis & darts.
Guests have the opportunity to slow down time, re-connect with the sights and sounds of nature all around safely tucked away in the heart of a rural village. The area is renowned for its wild orchids and birds of prey which are to be found no more than a stone's throw away. Depending on the time of year, the neighbouring hillsides of vines, poppies or sunflowers are simply spectacular lending incredible views of the countryside and Cathar castles.
With their unique ambiance & rustic character, Razès Gîtes are suitable for short & long lets. Open all year round, they also provide those who need a 'get-away-from-it-all' break in winter a bolthole from within which to re-energise during the long, cold months.
For the bird lover, it's a perfect place from which to admire the sights and sounds of many local species of buzzards, kites, eagles and kestrels among many others.
The Grange and secluded gardens may be shared with a couple staying in the gîte next door. This means a maximum of 4 people using the outdoor facilities at any one time.
The owners are based in the adjoining property and are on hand, happy to help with advice, reservations & suggestions if and where required. However, if you've already made your own plans or prefer to have none at all, peace and privacy are all yours.
Whatever your preferred pastime, Razès Gîtes provide an ideal base from which to explore the Aude & Ariège countryside, the quaint circular villages and Cathar towns, or your own inner peace.
Local shops, wine and restaurants: The village of Escueillens is situated mid-way between Limoux & Mirepoix. There are no shops in the village so a series of mobile butchers, bakers and grocers make their daily rounds to the village square. The nearest shops, cafés and bank can be found just 7 km away in Belvèze which is also home to the local wine château.
The region is famous for its Blanquette de Limoux and also boasts more than 350 wines which you can't find in your supermarket back home. For those who like to indulge, we can arrange wine-tasting tours of the local caves and châteaux.
There are many delightful restaurants in the neighbouring towns of Mirepoix, Limoux & Carcassonne offering gastronomic experiences galore. We are happy to make recommendations & reservations.

A few kilometers from Carcassonne, in a quiet and quiet town, is this corner with everything we need. We spent almost the entire weekend visiting castles and doing some mountain routes but we were able to enjoy some quiet moments with the wood stove, another temporary tenant (Welsh) and with our host, Joanne in a pleasant conversation about the history of France and the Cathars on Saturday night.
The experience was a 10 if it weren't for the fact that the weather was not good the first two days and we were not able to enjoy the garden as we would have liked. This place is ideal for writers, painters and anyone who values silence.
About Joanne, a loving host, kind and attentive to our needs. Out of ten. Thanks a lot!
Comfortable, well equipped gite with great outdoor space. Lovely hosts who were a fantastic source of local information (best restaurants, swimming lakes, wineries, walks etc etc) that made our stay in the Razes really relaxing. Would absolutely
recommend a stay with Jo and Bob!
Jo and Bob were the perfect hosts - thanks for the greeting and especially the local wine. They were there if needed but never interfered. The property was well equipped and the communal garden, games room and sitting area were great, especially as we were the only guests. Pity about the weather but you can't have everything.
merci encore !
Amazing time in an amazing place with amazing people!
We travelled to the area for a friend's wedding, found Bob and Jo, fell in love with them, their house, and their friends. They are some of the most interesting, engaging people we've met in quite some time (and we get around, meet a lot of people). Bob and Jo are funny, smart, charming, fun, eccentric (the inspiring sort), gracious, creative (each accomplished writers), warm, cool and just all-around swell people--really, we can't say enough about either of them; and as mentioned, their friends and neighbors are awesome to boot.
Re: the cottage. Tucked away in a tiny picturesque French village, it's perfectly charming, well-appointed, private and easy living. Bob and Jo have green thumbs and it shows with a glorious backyard garden. The area is quiet and fairly remote, yet has everything one could need and/or want within a 5-15 minute drive--including many cheap and gorgeous bottles of wine, a butcher, several good restaurants, cafes, and a market. (If you're looking for a touristy holiday, head elsewhere. If, however, you want to mingle with the local French, listen to church bells toll on the hour, eat rustic foods, drink unpretentious wines and be regaled with tales of travel, Cricket and wisdom, book now with Bob and Jo!)…In the end, it depends on what you are looking for, but Bob and Jo's cottage (gite) in Escueillens-et-Saint-Just-de-Bélengard is the perfect place to the escape the madness of it all, write a novel (or at least contemplate one), fall in love...or, off the wagon. Either way, you're bound to have a splendid time!

Simply, lovely
From the moment we walked through the door to our Gite, we fell in love with the place. Jo & Bob couldn't be more welcoming, organising a wine tasting and recommending some fantatsic local places for us to eat. The garden to the south of the gite was so peaceful and it gave a great backdrop in the evenings for cheese and wine after a days travelling. The gite is in an ideal location to visit Carcassonne, Mirepoix, Montsegur and our favourite Roquefixade. To find someplace this relaxing nowadays makes a holiday that bit more special. Thank you both

Lovely tranquil setting and gardens
The gardens were so lovely it was hard to leave them! The gite was wonderfully cool and well equipped as was the barn for outside dining.
The photos are definitely accurate and reveal the beauty contained in this little paradise.

Cosy, tranquil gite with all the mod cons
We stayed for three nights in this comfortable and beautifully decorated gite in a little village of Escuillens. Jo and Bob were lovely hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay - warmly recommended!!! The gite is spacious and very clean, and the surrounding village is incredibly quiet. The parking area is shared with other properties but we always found a space and even chatted to the neighbours about their cats. Overall a lovely experience.

Encore merci Jo & Bob !
