"Bed was uncomfortable. None of the electrical outlets worked. The door looked as if it was kicked in at some point. Did not feel safe with the privacy chain. No staff on duty to help with check in or after. "

"Still no help from VRBO on this. Here are some of the things I encountered, most of which I was willing to deal with, until it became too much. First, I was traveling alone but my quote applied a mandatory 40 fee for an additional occupant. The owner reduced that fee by 20 but would not waive it entirely. The owner then would not honor a last-minute booking discount of 10% off the regular price that was advertised for this rental. He said the discount is something the VRBO platform displays to help boost search visibility. When I arrived, I only had time to shower and leave for my meeting. In the bathroom, I found a urine-encrusted trash can and long wet hairs on the floor. When I returned from my work event, I made a bowl of soup and headed for bed. Beneath the blankets I found a used cotton ear swab and a fine gritty material on the sheets. The other bed had the same super-fine grit. By now it was late and I needed sleep for tomorrow’s workday. I emptied the trash, left the apartment, and booked a room out of town, and informed the owner. He said he’d issue a refund but two days later he still hadn’t. He said that without proof of alternative accommodation, the apartment was used for its purpose, so no refund. I had a hotel receipt, but VRBO wouldn’t allow me to attach it. I sent it to them via email.Later, the owner said I should have inspected the apartment before leaving for the evening’s events and that I planned to leave and request a refund all along."
