This hotel has recently changed hands and has been refurbished throughout to a good standard. The staff were excellent - friendly and very helpful. The location is really convenient for the beach (which is directly opposite) Devonshire Park Tennis, theatres and Winter Garden - all just a short walk away. Several good restaurants nearby. Highly recommended!
Wonderful hotel and very convenient.
Good welcome when I arrived at the hotel. I was able to check in early. The room was clean and comfortable. It was a hot day so the window had been left ajar to let in a breeze. Toiletries in the bathroom were provided.
I am vegetarian and I mentioned this when I checked in and vegetarian sausages had been bought for me.
The hotel is next to the beech.
Walkable for train station and the town centre so very convenient.
I would recommend staying here and I would stay again.
Another stay at Alexander!,a great find in Eastbourne, all facilities not fully opened yet!but rooms excellent, receptionists great service!when its fully up and running?definitely top place on Eastbourne seafront!
Great stay!fantastic refurbishment of Alexander Hotel that others along Eastbourne front should follow!outstanding decor and when fully finished! Will be a great addition to Eastbourne!brilliant, as owners have kept some of the old features,,etc which adds a touch of class to decor!

Good overnight stay
This was an overnight stop, and the sight was chosen for cost and proximity to the city centre. Room was a reasonable size, with a bathroom in good condition with a good shower/tub. Rest of the hotel was neat, but worn. Minimal staff to answer questions.
What a difference from hotel i stayed in before!Great refurbishment, everything brand new in bedrooms!bathrooms spotlessly clean anf fantastic tiling!Great welcome also on signing in!highly recommended!thank you
Discovered the room had bed bugs after one night and we were only given a partial refund when a full refund was necessary.

The property was close to the Pier, beach and promenade. I would rate the property as 3.2 stars. The property was nice and clean, but the rooms were oddly shaped. The single room with a sea view was very narrow and one felt that you were sleeping in a closed off corridor (the bathroom so small that the sink was in the bedroom)The breakfast was good but despite it being quiet, the empty cereal bowls were left on the table even after you received your cooked breakfast creating a very messy looking table. The staff were helpful and courteous.
Was a great stay up until the next morning we found bed bugs and had bites all over. Showed the manger/owner the bugs crawling around and all he could say was he was sorry and left. Upon packing our things and going to check out he could only offer a partial refund….not even half, when a full refund was necessary. Service was fine until that point. Purely disgusted with the bed bugs.
Very pleasant stay , staff were so helpful , special praise for monica . Will definitely be returning soon . First class service .

Weekend in Eastbourne
Cheap and Cheerful. Stayed a couple nights, staff were nice and friendly and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Place is being done up so a bit run down in places, you can see the potential though. Great location on the sea front. I was there for a race so asked if I could have breakfast at 6:30 (usually 8-9), no problem for the staff so very happy.
I stayed with my mum for one night in a twin bedroom. Service was not up to standard and poor disabled access. My mum and I are both disabled and struggled with our walking sticks and bags up the front steps and went into a very tiny lift.
The room and hotel was not up to standard and especially not suitable for and asthmatic person like myself. I struggled to get in and out of the bath and in the sleeping area there was water marks and mould above the windows as well as the light area on the ceiling. When my mum went downstairs to see if we can have a different room no one available on reception (no bell either). I was in our reception room for on the verge of an asthma attack and was trying to control my breathing. This morning when checking out again no one on reception to greet us out. Especially cooked breakfast wasn't available only continental breakfast.
Bath was too high for me to get in and out off and only one plug socket by the mirror and table. Also features small lighting starting to come off the walls above the beds.
Overall despite being an old building this needs to be up to date and more suitable for the disabled (assessable rooms etc) and no water marks, mould and damps in the rooms to stop any further asthmatics having a asthma attacks. Would not stay here again, avoid this hotel.

In a good position on the seafront. However the room was very overpriced for what i got. The place is very tired and wants updating especially the shower facilities. Would not stay here again unless it was much much cheaper

The hotel is a beautiful old building with some orignal features but needs some updates.. the staff are excellant and friendly.. i woukd recommend the hotel for the staff alone... excellent
Not nice, the toliet didn’t work and the bed was hard. Breakfast was not good. A hotel that has seen better days. Not worth the money.

The view from the rooms at the front of the hotel are great. The hotel is quite dated and needs TLC in many areas but that is probably reflected by the fact it is graded 2 stars. Staff are friendly and helpful. Parking is in nearby parking bays using parking permits obtainable from the hotel at a cost of £1 per day.

Service was wonderful. A small, overworked and efficient staff are the only bright spot in this faded, old hotel. Breakfast was diabolical. Everything is cooked in advance so it arrives practically before it is ordered. Do not expect the egg yolks to be liquid nor the toast warm. There is no fresh fruit, yogurt, croissants, etc. Apparently, the hotel will get a complete renovation next spring, meanwhile go elsewhere.
