The staff was nice but it seems they were understaffed and simple requests took longer than other hotels I stayed at in Portugal. "This is an excellent hotel on an outstanding property. With a few tweaks, it would be a top shelf resort in Duoro Valley—highlights: reception—informative, gracious, helpful & delish welcome drinks, the food, an incredible chef, we loved the included breakfast with options to add on dishes, rooms—ours was very well equipped, comfortable with a private terrace and semi private pool (Amarela section) There are many options at different price points. The views are stunning!! We enjoyed the onsite winery tour and tasting and learned a lot about how ports are made. We would’ve explored the neighboring town, but we did not wish to leave the property! Dinners were lively & delish. Only downside—service was up & down. Some servers were excellent while others were indifferent Apart from this (easily addressable) issue, the place is utterly charming and serene!!!"
