"What an incredible stay for us. First time to a ryokan (i.e., traditional Japanese inn w/ onsen). What an experience! Hotel is somewhat confusing to navigate, but that is part of the adventure. The public onsen was incredible (note: they swap the male and female sides, so pay ATTENTION!). The room we stayed in was "traditional" in that we had five futons atop tatami. Haven't selpt that well in a long time! The in-room onsen was a bit old school (basically a deep tub), but still oh so magical....

This hotel had the most incredible view from our hotel room and the restaurant. I had the most restful sleep on the comfortable Japanese style futons and the staff were very attentive and kind, even giving the children gifts. We loved the onsen and massage services on site. I only wished the indoor pool was open for the children. Maybe it is drained this time of year, but it was a shame not to be able to use it. The outdoor pools were drained too.

Very nice and quiet resort directly on the beach and beautiful views. Only a few minutes from the train station. Nice public bath with indoor and outdoor areas, sauna and one with bubbles. Several restaurants on site, but booking required and we only ate there once. It’s an isolated small village with almost no other restaurants (one nice ramen place, but not open every day) close, but train to other places only takes a few minutes. As the "hanare" part of "hanareya" suggests, this location is quite far from what you might consider urban Japan, and as such is a good place for some relaxing quiet time. This was the most incredible place we’ve ever stayed! It was so incredibly unique from the history of the place to how modern it was inside and our very own cherry blossom tree outside our window. I can’t express how wonderful this place is! The service is impeccable and the dining is incredible. So luxurious and unique, I would stay here again and again! We stayed in the largest villa called Seguro, highly recommend!!!!
