"The service and staff were amazing. This is our third visit and we will be back. The restaurant had great food and the portions are huge. It would be nice if the trash on the beach was cleaned up, There are so many different beach option in the surrounding areas."

Santa Elena Lodge

Santa Elena Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"This is a beautifully-crafted, very clean hotel. The staff are helpful and kind. Breakfast is cooked to order with beautiful trays of fresh fruit and excellent coffee. The grounds are lovely, and all around are huge, magnificent trees full of many birds. One one side of the hotel is a market, and on the order side is a very good restaurant. There are several beaches nearby, but my favorite beach is a short drive north in the wildlife refuge."

10/10 Excellent
"Paradise-Palma was my best accommodation ! while on vacation in Costa Rica ! Pool was so inviting and we had it mostly to ourselves !Our cottage was clean and so adorable. There were many things/items that were provided that were awesome. Simple things like an abundance of fresh water, coffee, salt, pepper, sugar, spices, oil, laundry soap, dish soap !There was talk of monkeys , unfortunately we didn’t see them. Iguanas roomed around freely. Hummingbirds along with many species of birds, and all the natural sounds were amazing. However the microwave look good but didn’t plug in and therefore didn’t work. The Ad was true to description and the pictures looked a little different, based on the season photos were taken.Advertised but No hot tub.The signage to the entrance was so tiny, especially if arriving at dark. The host was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The availability of things to see and do, grocery stores, restaurants and airport were all close to our cottage."

Rancho Costafalo

Rancho Costafalo

10/10 Excellent
"Rancho Costafalo is a unique and very special place. It is remote and is situated in an idyllic setting on a large farm with an amazing botanical garden with species of citrus, palms, and rare cacti and a large beautiful pond. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed out two-night stay at the ranch. The accommodations are somewhat rustic, but offer everything we needed, a clean bed, nice bathroom and a pleasant deck. The ranch is about a 20-minute drive from the Santa Rosa National Park, which is well worth a visit for its historic significance and nice paved trails. It is also about 10 minutes from a small town with all the amenities. If you visit, be sure to stop by the tiny De La Abuella restaurant for dinner. Allan, the owners, is nice, friendly and helpful. He was very generous with us because we had forgotten to take cash and he footed the bill for our dinner and we reimbursed him later. We have a place in Guanacaste near Playa Grande. We plan to visit the ranch again the next time we are in the area. Melvin, the attendant at the ranch was very nice, polite and helpful. "

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Cuajiniquil?
The best area to stay in Cuajiniquil is the main village itself, especially for those seeking a convenient and authentic local experience. The village of Cuajiniquil is located along the coast of the Murciélago Bay, providing direct access to the sea. It's a compact area with a central square, a few local eateries, and small shops. The main road runs through the village, connecting it to the nearby Santa Rosa National Park. It's known for its fishing community and a relaxed pace of life. For travellers interested in fishing or exploring marine life, staying in the village is ideal. Many local boat operators offer fishing excursions, and the calm waters of the bay are great for snorkelling and diving. It's also a great base for visiting the remote beaches and islands of the national park, such as Isla Bolaños, which is a short boat ride away.Families will find the village a good option for a relaxed holiday. The pace is slow, and the local community is welcoming. There are opportunities for children to experience local culture and enjoy the beach without the crowds found in more developed tourist areas.
